Wow. I specced one in this colour with all the options I want and didn’t need one single option. 🤔 Better looking than the new 5er to my eyes and in a year or two’s time I guess I’m going to fund less than the £93k asking price in a deal. EtA: Just noticed to get the massage seat function I need the Black edition, which basically makes the lower bumpers shiny black and.... er.... not much else. Apart from massage seats. So that'll be £98k to undercut.

I’ve not looked at the E55, but adding the Premium Plus pack usually gives you everything you need. Doesn’t the black pack replace the shiny window surrounds as well? It’s been an essential option on Mercedes for some time as the standard cars have way too much chrome (imo).
Much, much better looking than the new 5 series.

Yeah, I've changed the pics to the Premium Plus ones. To get a decent green on the BMW I need Individual colours at £4k and the massage seats don't seem to feature on the new one. Eva has one more year of PCP but I'll probably keep her for two more as the engine is barely run in. It's just changing one shiny thing for another shiny thing in the end.

I am not generally a fan of the current Benz range, but I could get used to having that on the drive.
Not going to happen, though. The current Benz only has 58,000 on the clock and has many more years left in it yet.
Nice colour onthe example above. I would need proper wood inside and I don't know if that is still available.

Not sure I could live with that cheap looking Fisher Price interior.

Not sure I could live with that cheap looking Fisher Price interior. This is an issue I have with all modern cars with screen everywhere. I must admit, though, the driver screen on Mercs is a bit meh.

I must admit, though, the driver screen on Mercs is a bit meh. It's the unnecessary disco lighting that I object to - I prefer the Saab "black panel" approach. Nice looking car except for the front, which is better than the BMW for sure, but still not nice. It would look so much better with a modern interpretation of the traditional grille and gunsight star.

Is it an option to have the bonnet 3 pointed star these days?

I had the misfortune to be in a BMW showroom (again) this morning and the Merc is a vision of loveliness and outright beauty compared to the horror show I witnessed. Even a bright orange M5 Competition parked right outside didn't distract the eye enough from what I was seeing.
The i7 in two tone silver over burgundy was a particular lowlight!

My experience with a loaned Merc S class some years ago was that the interior lighting felt way too much like a 1970's disco. Maybe that is "cool" in Germany? But subtle it was not. Re the OP, that is better looking than the BMW offering. But that's a pretty low bar to jump over. What makes it better is that it is a more coherent shape and the front grille at least looks like it was designed in, rather than added on.

Is it an option to have the bonnet 3 pointed star these days? I'd imagine pedestrian protection regs put paid to them. I know RR have the Spirit of Ecstacy still but that's retractable so probably goes down in the event of a crash - much to the horror of owners who must be aghast at such protection being afforded to the peasants they've just run over.

The star is now a relatively lightweigt affair compared to the gunsight of old and it easily folds back on impact. I wouldn't be without one on a Benz. It is a simple two minute job to pop out the circular bonnet badge and replace with a star, as I did with mine.
