Thread for the boy after finally winning a race, although he should’ve had that Monza win a couple of seasons ago.
One team driver thus far and the stay has paid off.

Bloody brilliant result. Nice to see all the other drivers being genuinely happy for Lando.

Super happy for him, may take a trip to McLaren later to see the main sign illuminated in orange.

Really happy for Lando: he continued to push all the way to the finish and didn't make any mistakes which is a must for real success in F1. If McLaren's pace was real v Verstappen then that is a huge step forward and could make the rest of the season very interesting.

Another one who's really pleased for him. I was at school with his Dad. Met him (the Dad) again at a reunion back in 2015 when Lando was first starting to make his mark in the junior categories. We talked about Max Verstappen, who was then in his first season in F1, and how much it cost to hire a race circuit for Lando to go testing...

Very happy for him as well - I support McLaren and have always really like and rated Lando. Its interesting that Lewis has said a lot of nice things about Lando over the years, sometimes live on air during a race, even though he had no corporate reason to do so. And Lewis was waving at him like crazy after the finish!
Lando is very very quick, races well without being OTT, and makes few mistakes. When Ricciardo was his teammate, Lando was said to have spent ages in the simulator overcoming some weird handling characteristics that his team mate never got used to in low speed corners. He has the potential to go all the way with the right car...

No doubt he's as quick as anyone and probably only max would keep him honest in the current environment. Looks like he has that consistent pace to break good team mates. Too bad Lando didn't take the second seat at RB. That would be the end of that Bromance between the 2 drivers.

George beat him convincingly in F2. I think Lando has improved more than George has since then, I'd love to see the two of them go head to head at some point.

I think a lot of the speed of the drivers at the sharp end of motorsport is down to how comfortable they are with their car and its balance. If they find that sweet spot they are comfortable, relaxed and very fast but if the car has traits they don't like or can't trust when at the limit, they just don't shine. The margins really are very small.

Definitely agree with you there, John. Particularly if you can't fully trust how a car behaves at or very near its limit, I can very much see how that erodes confidence and saps laptime.
