I think they have destroyed a lot of what made the Mini special. The back end is atrocious to my eyes and the minimalist dash is equally as awful. The whole busy dashboard on the previous Mini was one of its most attractive features. Who is designing cars these days? 16 year olds who have never driven and octogenarians who have given up caring?

It's quite a clever facelift - I suspect the difference between the two bodies will be more pronounced when you see both in the flesh (the EV is supposed to be smaller) but from images you need to be a spotter of the arches (or lack of them) the subtle differences in the flanks and the different shut lines. When I first saw the ICE version, I had to look twice to realise it was a facelifted F56.

The jury is still out on the new (face-lifted) Mini. I think I can get used to the new rear. I'll need to see the interior up close to see whether it feels up to the standard I expect from Mini - materials, "feel", "ambience" etc.

I don't know why but when I saw the rear end I thought Ssangyong! That's not a compliment.

I actually think its not a bad facelift and will do the trick of making the current one look very much out of date.
The interior is however a disaster. It looks very basic and takes away all the old toggle switches that made the Mini a cut above something like a Fiesta. Yes it saves the manufacturer money but its shortsightedness. Manufacturers need to work out how to install tech around the brands USP not just try and take on Tesla and bolt a tablet on the dash.
Edited to add, the material quality and using cloth on the dash is a nice touch.

I don’t mind the exterior, the rear isn’t great but it does look more modern. I’ll reserve judgment on the interior until I’ve seen one, but it doesn’t look as special as the old ones. We made the point not that long ago about how you differentiate interior design with a big screen, at least it’s circular, but without the toggle switches and other nice touches it’s too similar to a cheap Chinese EV. Maybe the materials will help it as Ed suggests.
At least some manufacturers are keeping physical controls and hopefully others will follow. I like what Aston have done with the DB12 and new Vantage, buttons and a properly integrated screen. Porsche have reduced the buttons a bit but have kept the particularly nice controls on the latest Panamera, although they can’t be forgiven for removing the analogue rev counter.
