Sadly my wife suffered something of a mishap in her Panda the other day when the brakes randomly stopped working. They'd been fine the rest of her journey and indeed seemed to work afterwards. Alas the failure occurred as she was approaching a line of stationary traffic, the last car in line bringing her to an abrupt stop. Luckily she was only doing a little less than 20mph and no one was hurt. Unluckily 5mins earlier she'd been to the petrol station so her now written off car took 50 quid of unleaded with it!
So she's decided on another but newer Fiat and now the girls are older and no longer in car seats fancied the idea of a 500. We looked at a mint green 19 plate Pop model with 10k miles that was only up for £7495. It was at an appointment only dealer who specialises in more sportier models (had some nice Ferraris and a couple of new Corvettes on his lot) but I wasn't happy that it was looked after and there was a dent on the bonnet that he had no intention of sorting. I was also concerned that he'd got it from a local 500 specialist and being that new I couldn't help wondering why they didn't want it. So we passed and a day later he'd sold it to someone else.
So yesterday I went and looked at this yellow one. Its 40k and a 17 plate and whilst only £500 less it's a Lounge model with optional panoramic roof. It just sneaks into the £20 road tax band. The dealer is another 500 specialist who sources low mileage good examples. It was clearly a lease car originally so had dealer service history for 3 years then was sold by a car supermarket and whoever had it next never bothered to have the book stamped or keep any receipts. A common issue with this type of car as they're not exactly owned by car saddos like us lot. There's not a mark on it though and a service comes included in the price as part of the prep for delivery. For £250 (his mechanics cost price) they also do a cambelt - due on age but not mileage but something I'd definitely have done. So I've paid a deposit and should pick it up next week.
