Great stuff, probably a straight swap for Sainz. Be interesting to see how the Tifosi welcome the news. Can Hamilton compete with an on form LeClerc in qualifying, probably not? Can LeClerc deal with Hamilton in the race, probably not. Could be electric.

I am properly excited for this, not a Ferrari fan particularly but it is brilliant news, if a tad surprising, now got to wait a bloody year!!

Maybe Hamilton has already driven the simulator for the new car and come to the conclusion it is a no hoper. He got his timing right when he moved to Mercedes so maybe he has some insider knowledge that says the 2025 Ferrari is going to be quick.

I think he's lost faith in Mercedes ability to get a championship winning car again whilst he's still young enough to drive it. There's no guarantee Ferrari will either but uts his last chance to make a move there. Sainz contract is ending and anyone else replacing him would want at least a 2 year deal. So he'd be waiting till at least 2027 if he didn't go for it.
The shock factor is the announcement being made before the 2024 season has even begun which certainly puts Mercedes on the back foot in terms of expectations for the year ahead.

My wife is huge Hamilton fan and I’ve been telling her for the last 18 months that he will end his career at Ferrari, much to her derisive dismissal. When she got in from work yesterday I had a big smile on my face…
