I had a chat with a neighbour on Sunday night and he said he had been in to the local BMW emporium to see if they had any information on the new iX2. He has had 3 series Tourings for as long as we have known him but he feels that now is the right time to go electric (up to him!) and he wants something a bit easier to get in to. The dealer was able to spec a car for him but he was really irritated that most of the extras he wanted were packaged up with things he didn't want and other things he wanted were separately listed and expensive. Apparently this included a charging cable and capability for super fast charging. He also found that one of the packages which contained some of the things he wanted required him to have a white car and just to add insult to injury, the price was over £65K.
He is now going to go and look at Audi, Lexus and Mercedes to see what they have.
I had a quick look at the configurator and it looks like the Sports Pro pack which includes gloss black exterior trim does indeed only come in white! What idiot though that one up.
I told him just to buy a new or used 340i touring and I am sure he would have much more fun.

1. The BMW packaging strategy is often all wrong for paying customers and is based on what dealers see as the most shiftable AUCs i.e. the original purchaser doesn’t matter as much as the second buyer.
2. The iX2 is revolting and no amount of FG will make it any better looking.

On the other hand I find the X1 a reasonably good looking machine and would get my vote over the X2 everyday.

He wanted the black grill (and really dislikes the standard grill) but black only comes with the Sport Pro Pack with which you have to have white paint!
I haven't spoken to him since and tend to see him when he is out for his evening walk at the weekends. The iX1 might be a possibility - that looks about the size of an old X3 now.

Surprisingly the wheels do have silver on them (diamond cut I think) but they also have plenty of black. From memory I think the privacy glass is an extra cost option.

If he really wants the car then suggest he goes online to check out the price of replacement grilles in black. I bought black grilles for the 4 series (I know they're significantly smaller than modern BMWs) for £35. The dealer would've supplied and fitted a set for just over £100 I think.

I think when he specced it up and it became £65K, that was just a step too far. I have the feeling he thought it might be £10K less than that.

Have they not just recycled the X4 styling?

Have they not just recycled the X4 styling? It certainly looks like it.

The X2 of a few years ago was not bad looking. But the iX2 has got all the usual current BMW issues all over it. Plus £65k for what I consider to be a "small" car is ludicrous. Even £55.... or is the iX2 now as large as an X5 used to be?

I know, it’s terrible…….he forgot Porsche… Well, he could probably get a lightly used Taycan for the same budget
