Top Gear on YouTube have an in depth look at the Cybertruck. Have not watched it all yet. But there does seem to be a lot of engineering expertise involved, especially with the stainless (properly stainless they hope) steel used. Looks wise and form v function wise it seems as divisive as ever.

Some good detail on the Hagerty video
Cybertruck looks hideous, but the new tech and advancements are very impressive and promising when introduced back onto the cars

I haven't watched the videos. Did Musk 'design' this monstrosity himself?

I haven't watched the videos. Did Musk 'design' this monstrosity himself? They explain the design process in the video. Personally, I'm torn; my first, instinctive reaction, is that it's a monstrosity, something that looks like it was designed by a 3 year old, something to be ridiculed. However, the more I see it and see the reactions of people I'm getting a horrible feeling it's a bit of genius, enabling it to stand out in a sea of cookie cutter trucks that populate the US. It's also mental that part of the marketing has become its ability to withstand 9mm rounds from a handgun. A lot of Americans will find that tremendously attractive as they muse about life in a post apocalyptic, zombie-filled, world. I still think that, if I owned one, the fingerprints on the stainless steel would drive me mad. Even zombie ones.

For some reason I still can't believe this will see the light of day. Maybe because its so futuristic and like nothing else it still casts doubt with me. Its bonkers but surely that's better then plain old boring. Where Tesla goes others usually follow.

Those will be the same Americans that currently happily send their small children to primary school with bulletproof backpacks I think the Tesla looks like a poor prop from Logans Run!

Leaves me completely cold. Sure it's different but it takes "flashy" to a whole new level. Next to that a 6x6 G-Wagon is a shrinking violet's delight.
Can't help thinking it looks like one of those uber-ostentatious mega-SUVs touted by Russian manufacturers a couple of years ago, of the sort with built-in armaments and leather interiors made the hides of virgin dolphins.

From an aesthetic point of view I find absolutely no redeeming features. The only hope is that some of the tech will improve the cars.

I don't really know what it is for - but go to the North America and you will see even more "commercial" vehicles being used across a wide range of private uses than here. It may sell well - but the fact its electric will surely be the big problem for the rural buyer who wants something more "truck" than car. In which case expect to see them being crashed in US cities on a regular basis! At 3 tonnes, with a 0-60 of 2.6, and driven by the sorts of throbbers who buy Teslas, this thing is going to be lethal...

It strikes me as a very odd to have a vehicle styled this way when everything else they do looks like a 90's Proton.

No, not for me. I find it ludicrous.
