So I see that DR is in and Nyck DV is out.
Thoughts?
In fairness all DR has to do is beat Yuki but thats easier said then done. If he doesn't its the final nail in his F1 coffin but if he puts on a good showing is it the big seat next to Max in 2024?
Not sure DV has been given enough time but he has failed to impress after his showing in the Williams last year. With DR getting the seat does that mean the Red Bull driver programme is rather pointless.

Where did Perez come from? Apart from him and Danny Rick, the rest have failed to shine.

Hard to say that this is reasonable but fairly expected from Red Bull. A bit pointless, as said, to have a young driver programme and a second team if a free seat goes to some old Aussie. He’s a good driver and merchandising tool but really? We can assume that in simulator and on track test Ricciardo annihilated the other three but what would you expect?
I was at a dinner tonight at the club with Mr Le Mans and not many RBR fans in the room. What he did say was that Max has listened to advice and started giving other drivers the respect he didn’t previously. He didn’t describe the old Max in positive terms.

Brutal, entirely predictable, and he absolutely wasn't given enough time. Typical Red Bull. I knew he was doomed as soon as he turned down a firm offer from Williams to join AT. Impossible to know for sure of course but I think he would have done better in that environment, especially with an improved 2023 car under James Vowles.
De Vries is well shot of AT. He'll go back to sportscars or FE and have a lot more fun.
I'd like to see DR do well and he has apparently relearned how to drive properly after forcing himself into some bad habits at McLaren. But the 2023 Alphatauri is a complete shitbox. Steep learning curve ahead.

I hope they both do well, If DR can just avoid looking daft he should be on firmer ground for next year, far too god to be beached but the time at McLaren did him no favours.

Alpha Tauri exists to feed RB. No point having someone staying in the seat that isn’t going to make the move to RB.
It’s F1 and NDV isn’t an 18 year old kid. He’s missed his shot but I’m sure he’ll be handsomely rewarded in sports cars.
Teams need to make far more of these tough choices as there’s been plenty of dossers taking up seats in F1 for too long. Good on Dr Marko.

To be fair Nick at least WAS an F1 driver where thousands of kids at kart tracks across the globe aren’t. Like a footballer that mis-kicked a penalty in the final - gutting at the time but that’s better than never playing in one.

Good on Dr Marko. That is a fair point. You have to question how long Lance Stroll would last in one of the four RB seats. I suspect not very long at all, though I'm sure his seat at Aston Martin is purely on merit...

F1 is a very tough game dictated by money and results. Some teams are more accommodating but Red Bull is right at the sharp end of ruthless. It's a shame that NDV didn't shine but it might just be that he couldn't get on with the car and therefore lacked the confidence - this happens a lot in motorsport where some drivers like a car's balance to be a certain way and if they can't get that setup they find it hard to be fast. We are talking about small, to some, imperceptible changes which bring confidence and perhaps allow a corner to be taken flat instead of with a lift. I wish him well.

Ha. The F1 Gods have spoken and the grinning buffoon gives way to new blood for the Dutch GP.

Lawsons a serious talent apparently. Certainly takes the pressure of Perez anyway.
