206 - nope. I did drive a few 308's of that era and - call me a heretic for saying this if you wish - it was a better motorway mile cruncher than the Mk 1 Focus. But get on a twisty road and the Focus was the way better car. Horses for courses I guess....
That's a lot of BMW for the money. But if you're buying on condition, that 206 looks exceptionally well card for.

A 5 series estate with Nappa and comfort seats…lot of luxury for £1,500! That’s Anthracite Bamboo trim, same as I had on my 520d.
It’s a no to the 206. How much do 6 cylinder petrol BMWs start at?
What’s happened to the steady stream of new Ford’s at £1.50 a week? Have you changed jobs?

I still have the PHEV Kuga. We’ve just stopped paying £200 or £300 a month for a car that does 2000 miles a year.
I also like buying shitboxes.
I like the idea of the estate for carting cricket kit etc about. Front and rear parking sensors so may be able to persuade the wife. Did 2008 5 series have Bluetooth?

The lux pack that got the leather/memory seats and the soft close doors was £2395 in 2008.

You need to persuade Ford to start offering the Ka again in the UK, from £79 per month.....

I think the days of the £4999 Ka are in the rear view Chris.

I know that in 2009 Bluetooth was an option, either standalone or part of the Business Edition pack. I had the Business Edition, which also included Professional Media which that SE doesn’t have, so it would have to have been a single option. I’ve looked at my 2009 price list and it was £525, including the sliding armrest.

The 206 driving position is hateful, I got a 206 d turbo a company car and lasted a day before I swapped it for a focus 1.8 d estate...

My 2008 1 series (E82) has Bluetooth and various 3 series I looked at ages ago had it. I think you need the bmw ‘professional’ audio in most cases.

As above, my 2008 330d has Bluetooth because it has the professional stereo. It only works for phone, not music though.

Sara had a 206 auto, a 1.6 and it was dire. Dire driving position and the horrible gearbox was actually dangewrous. You want to accelerate out of a junction? Requests in triplicate with a recently signed note from the grandparents, you will be notified when it is safe to proceed. Or not.

Bought a very high mileage E61 520d M Sport Buznuss Edition (manual) this morning. Black with black leather. Mostly seems to work and very nice looking and a very decent interior given the 175000 miles. Has xenon’s, Nav, f and r parking sensors, heated seats, rear air suspension.
1 very annoying problem - the remotes don’t work so Inhave to unlock with a key and then stick the key in the slot or the alarm goes off. I know one of the 4 keys does send a signal as I’ve been to Timpson’s (the original keys are rechargeable and can lose connections) but it does nothing. I’ve been trying to Google how to programme the keys but I can only find info for regular keys or for comfort access keys. Anyone know how to programme one that goes in the slot then you have a push button start?
The rear wiper also doesn’t work so might try the relay as a first idea.

From the photos that looks very tidy, considering the mileage.

Looks pretty decent.
Rear wiper will either be a fried motor, or its seized because one of the washers (metal washer, not screenwash) has disintegrated - this happened with my E46 estate and was fixed by removing the wiper arm and spindle and replacing the offending washer, cost to repair FREE because I had an appropriate washer lying around - or the dreaded E61 tailgate wiring problem, although that would most likely give you a dashboard warning light too.

I had one as a loaner when I had the 156GTA, and OMG was it dangerously slow!!!! cbeaks - that looks like a tidy bargain, issues aside! Good luck on the reliability front...

That’s nice. The Business edition is the one to go for ideally, as you’ll definitely get Bluetooth, although it still only gets you business Nav on the 20d. I think it was c£500 extra to upgrade when I got mine, which I added along with the Bamboo trim.

4 matching Bridgestones and a no advisory mot suggested it may have been looked after to some degree. Looked at a high mileage TT and an Octavia and they wore the miles massively worse. Once the hear know is replaced and some mats are in the interior would pass for a 1/4 of the mileage. Also have some centre caps and a 2022 navi disc on the way.
Hopefully the rear wiper working might mean the central locking issue is the key not the wiring loom.

After much googling about possible costly issues with the remote locking I pulled the alarm fuse and the problem is now solved. Well, the alarm no longer goes off. I’ve sent a key off to an eBay seller that takes them apart and fits a new battery etc. Maybe that will work.
New knob and mats are in, and a 3.5mm aux to lightning wire means DAB and Spotify etc.

I thought batteries in keys were easy to replace. I have certainly changed the batteries in my last two cars.
I had a seized rear wiper in my E46 Touring and I just took out the motor and spindle, cleaned it up, greased it, put in a new rubber seal (O ring) and it was to good as new.
Those old 5 series were pretty well built.

They have to be cut open and re soldered then put in a new case.
I spoke to a locksmith yesterday and he won’t touch BMW’s of this era with the CAS system (whatever that is).

Thanks for the rear wiper advice. New mechanism (needed some fettling) in and works a treat.
Also bought a diversity antenna off eBay and installed yesterday. It works - central locking sorted and now the cd changer and pre sets also work. As a bonus there were 4 cd’s of some sort of Now TWICM compilation of 1990’s music still in the cassette.
I think everything works now. I still need to do the wash, clay, cut , polish, but it is remarkable what you can get for less than £3k. It certainly wears the miles better than any other 100k + cat I have had/been in.
