This morning 3 vans turned up outside the office, 2 from Kier and one from Coneworx.
The coneworx guys coned off and area and reduced 3 lanes down to one. They then retired to the cab of their van and have been playing on their phones or munching on the delights they picked up from McDonalds just along the road, for the past 2 hours.
Of the 3 guys from Kier, one has been sitting on a wall most of the time, one is in a digger making a hole and the other appears to look in the hole and then go back to his van after a quick chat with his mates. Really stressed these guys!

If anyone here is remotely surprised at your observation I will be most surprised!

If anyone here is remotely surprised at your observation I will be most surprised! I'm surprised they've managed that much, to be honest!

Lindsay works for the second company you mention (she is always having to explain its not the car company), I’ll pass the feedback on!

I’m on my way back from dinner with some partners of the business. We discussed (among other issues) the productivity and profit expectations of European main contractors vs. UK ones. The difference is the vested interest (big European contractors are generally owned/controlled by single families) and employment terms (including an example where new joiners are not entitled to TAKE any annual leave in year 1 but get double leave in year 2). To surprise you all that example is a French company.

I have a mate who works in Traffic Management. He is literally paid to drive a wagon along and lay out cones. He then parks up and waits until they're no longer needed and collects them back in.
