It's got to be "selling" luxury cars.
My sister has just taken delivery of a Porsche Macan S (Volcano Grey with Pebble Grey interior). It's been on order for a year and, to be honest, the supplying Porsche dealer has been next to useless. It's her car, bought with her money, and other than taking the order have done nothing to keep her informed of the expected delivery date. Finally, it took her leaving a message to say she was considering cancelling as my niece was going to university in London and she was just going to use her Audi before anyone deemed to call her back with an update. To add insult to injury, when she went to pick it up they offered my brother-in-law a Porsche driving experience day, completely ignoring her! Fecking dinosaurs.
She originally went to look at a Range Rover Velar but they were even worse. After managing to collar a guy to ask him to open the rear hatch (to see if there was enough room for a dog), he grudgingly went off to get a set of keys, unlocked it and then fucked off. No sale there then. It must be wonderful to be a Porsche or Land Rover salesman; turn up for work, bacon butty, sit on your fat arse watching You Tube videos until someone who looks wealthy comes in, give them a price, take the order, repeat. Buy another shiny suit with the commission at the end of month.
Mind you, my brother-in-law didn't learn; he went back in himself and bought a Land Rover Discovery 3 door commercial (only 18 month waiting list). He's saving £18k in VAT and running it as a pool car through his business so no company car tax.

Have you ever done Business to Consumer? Especially to Porsche people who can be the fussiest of the fussy. Like all there are good and bad but yeah I'd imagine with a brand like Porsche you couldn't help but clear up. Having bought 2 cars from Porsche Guildford they haven't phoned me in years. And they are a Porsche GB owned business. Volvo on the the other hand have called me repeatedly seeing if I want to change.
Having recently been to a Land Rover dealer they aren't interested in dealing with walk in it seems. Every sales person was busy with customers so its pre-booked only. Usually there is a receptionist doing FA so why they don't use them to meet and great and take details I don't know.

The fact that Guildford haven't phoned you in years I find shocking. It's the easiest thing in the World to keep in touch, update their CRM tool, and just introduce themselves.
I've worked in Sales and Marketing all my career and, honestly, I'd sack 80% of the car sales people I come across. They display neither the hunger, discipline or aptitude for the role.

Might have been a bit harsh. 70%.

My experience of car sales people was that very few care or have knowledge of the product and having worked at a garage they all seem to be looking to their next opportunity which will inevitably, in their mind at least, be a lot more lucrative than their current role.
I don't think any are car enthusiasts, I always have the feeling they could just as easily be working in Currys.

I bought a gt4,991.2 gts and 991.2 gt3 with porsche bolton in little over 2 years ,never had a phone call since .The Range rover Velar I tried ,I would probably have bought if the salesman had actually bothered to call me back with a part ex value the next day as he promised. He still hasn't called . On the other hand the guy at dealt with at top 555 calls me every 4-6 months .

I’ve had loads of poor experiences over the years, lazy and misinformed (being kind) people who could just as easily be ‘selling’ you a photocopier, have no idea what good customer service is (and should be for something so expensive) and just don’t do the very basic things you’d expect (call back when promised etc). I was most offended by the BMW salesman who told me I’d be better off with a 530d after test driving a used 535d saloon, as I wasn’t using all the extra performance….! I was being considerate of it not being my car and having him in the passenger seat! I’ve had mixed experiences with Porsche, the first one was fantastic, we were looking at the cheapest car they had for sale at the time and it felt like we were their most important customer. A few years later, I had terrible service when looking at a used Cayenne Turbo, messed me about with the pricing then didn’t even follow up after the visit. It felt like I was a second class customer because I was looking at a second hand car. I wasn’t a drop in either, I’d made an appointment. I’m seriously thinking about replacing one or both cars in the near future but don’t have the usual excitement, feels like a load of hassle and disappointment that I could really do without on top of everything else at the moment.

I do think Porsche dealers could do with a reality check (sadly, unlikely to happen), the bottom dropping out of their secondhand stock would be a good start, make them work to shift it.

I can't speak about Porsche dealers but the Nissan ones I've dealt with have been pretty good to deal with and for follow up calls. At one of them the showroom receptionist even tried to sell Mrs Tim a GT-R when the 370 was in for a service I got completely ignored at a Merc garage on more than one occasion (same garage both times) and a Mitsubishi dealer blanked me when I was hanging my nose over an Evo (it was a lucky guess from them that time around). Conversely another Mitsubishi salesman at a different garage was very keen to chat about the Evo even though I'd actually gone in to look at a Shogun!

An Audi salesman treated me as an inconvenience and when I took my mam to a VW dealer thinking of buying her a hatch back we were ignored. I suppose my Merc experience showed me that complaining often gets results. I didn't buy my Boxster from the dealer in Newcastle who used to service it but I have to say that after I complained their service was actually the best I've ever had and on another positive note I have to say that the young salesman at the local BMW showroom couldn't have tried harder to sell me a car.
The misogyny is just impossible to excuse and stupidity really. Sooner or later hopefully that'll bite him, somehow.

I've never wasted my time looking at a car I couldn't afford but I do look at bit low budget casual even if I've made an effort. A salesman once sneeringly asked how much I was willing to spend and I knew how much their most expensive car was and that's the figure I quoted. He was ok after that Attitude often disappoints but as they're mostly the same what can you do? Make a noise and move on I suppose.

Actually, our local Nissan dealership is good and my wife enjoys dealing with them (probably why she’s on her 4th Qashqai). They’re very good at keeping in touch.

I am afraid to say that the majority of UK sales people in all consumer facing businesses are awful. Not just cars. Houses, consumer items, holidays. You name it, we could all probably fill several pages with the shit service we've had. But in amongst that the good sales people really shine out and you actually want to do business with them - the sign of a good sales person.
My car experience has been across the whole spectrum over the years. Best, probably the sales guy who sold me my XFR. Even though its gone he still calls me every 6 months to see of I am interested in anything he has. Worst, probably the guy I bought my second Jaguar off (X Type estate). Frankly, I wanted to punch him and never heard a word ever again after I left the forecourt. And the company I worked for was 5 minutes up the road, so this was local.
