So the Mercan moppette has been found guilty of sexual assault, will this stop him running for the top seat or will it even put people off voting for him?

I chose the final option but I don't think its quite right. Anyway as this was a civil case I'm told he's not been found 'guilty' rather it's been found that he did it.
There's clearly a fair chunk of Yanks who've gone down the Trump rabbit hole and are fully indoctrinated into the cult so no matter what comes up against him he's still their man.
I'm not sure what the wider Republican party are going to do apart from hold on and hope he dies because. at present at least, they seem too scared/powerless to challenge him.
I think for the general American populace he's unelectable and this result will encourage females and young people to vote against him - assuminh he stands which is still uncertain given other action heading his way.

Headlines in this morning's right wing press: "Trump found not guilty of rape!"

I think De Santis will go up against Trump for the nomination but if either get elected to the White House I am not sure which I would prefer!!
The Democrats need to find someone younger than Biden because 5 or 6 years from now he really won't be in a fit state to run anything: he appears to have some issues just walking normally at the moment.
Politics in the western world have become a sh*t show over the past 10 years.

Agree about Biden, although he's in much better physical shape than Trump.
DeSantis is a weird one. He won Florida comfortably but now seems to be on some sort of path of self destruction by taking on Disney. Independent observers who appear to know a bit about this think that he's taken on a lot more than he can handle with that and if Disney were to leave Florida then that's nearly 100k jobs going somewhere else.
The Republicans are very weird, they say they want small Government, their most vehement supporters want to live alone in the woods yet they're the ones bringing in very restrictive legislation targeting everyone who isn't them.
While that's sort of understandable these sorts usually seem to end up wanting to control everything so their supporters will end up with less freedom as well.

American politics is probably the biggest advertisement for the success of the post-Stalin Soviet era when viewed in retrospect. The fact Western Europe learned lessons from both sides is a positive outcome from such polarised versions of state lunacy.
This is a man who proclaimed that the best way to greet a woman was to “grab her by the pussy”. Alas a man like this retains popularity in a nation with huge numbers of people that remain convinced much of history of whatever flavour is invented by invisible powers that watch our every move 24hrs a day.

I don’t think it’ll make any difference as sleepy Joe has scandals of his own. What Americans care about are their living standards and they’ve got worse under a Biden administration.

I thought they were improving now?
What are his scandals? He seems quite bland especially compared with all of the things Trump and his accolytes have been up to.

His scandals relate to his son, various videos of him being inappropriate with young woman, classified files found in his home and of course the major issue of his competence. America is again left with a choice of least shit.

Fair enough, he is a doddery old man, although in my opinion better than Trump (a low bar!).
It's a bit harsh flagging up the issues to do with his son though when the previous incumbent has, in addition to his own multitude of failings (including classified files at home), 2 completely moronic sons, a daughter with questionable ties to China and a son in law who has apparently made a lot of money via the Saudis.
You're right though, how have the US got to the point where these are the best 2 candidates.

American politics is probably the biggest advertisement for the success of the post-Stalin Soviet era when viewed in retrospect. The fact Western Europe learned lessons from both sides is a positive outcome from such polarised versions of state lunacy. American POTUS is about who can raise the most money for a campaign to lead their party then who can raise the most to spend on the hustings. It has almost nothing to do with sensible policies for the nation's future. The POTUS' first and last actions in power is usually to pardon a raft of shifty individuals that aligned with their point of view even though it was illegal when they were charged. And there are republicans in the UK that think a powerless monarchy is worse.....

To voters they’re as bad as each other, at best it’s a case of seeing the least shit, so they’ll vote based on standard of living. It has fallen since Trump mainly as energy costs remain higher than they were. That might not seem a fair argument but it’s one that voters can relate to when Biden increased energy dependency by closing down energy supply projects.

I wouldn't agree that they're as bad as each other - as far as I know Biden isn't facing multiple lawsuits - but it doesn't matter as I have no vote for either of them.
My biggest worry with the situation across there is that we often appear to import trends from the US - skateboarding in the 70s, BMX in the 80s, etc.
I was worried that we were going to do the same with blatant corruption in politics but we appear to be veering away from that recently.

Last I read was that DeSantis may sit 2024 out. He's young yet. Biden gets in again in 2024, Trump has to bow out and then he has a fee run at whoever takes over from Biden half way through his 2nd term as he'll be ga-ga. Anyone care to bet on DeSantis v Kamal Harris?
If Trump gets in in 2024, he'll not be able to stand in 2028 and so again DeSantis can stand for 2028 free of Trump.

Judging by the 'genetic' coding of the current VP, I'll put my money on her being in the big seat sooner than later. A 'person of colour AND the pc gender over the mysogenist crackpot can get the job done.

IF Trump gets in again then judging by the Republican actions at state level they'll change the constitution and he'll be eligible to run again in 2028 although his challenger will be either Don Jnr or Ivanka. DeSantis appears to be a no-hoper who got in to a fiercely Republican state by saying everyhting they wanted to hear. His actions against Disney aren't thought to be very clever as they have the financial power to make him look like a fool.

Same reason that Nikki Haley is invisible in the Republican race despite having confirmed her run months ago.

For all the profile that California and Hollywood push about inclusivity, togetherness etc. the US as a whole is light years behind the UK, France and even Central Europe in these areas, which in the case of the latter re: non-whites is REALLY saying something. I'll never forget the story told from a Jimi Hendrix documentary: he was a massive rock star in the UK, accepted by society and living as rock stars do. He returned to do a gig / chat show stuff in the US and wasn't allowed on the fucking bus! This is a time when the UK wasn't exactly tolerant itself. As to women's rights: Bible Belt: none. West Coast and Tristate: Trannys have more rights.

As to women's rights: Bible Belt: none. West Coast and Tristate: Trannys have more rights. This is important. The voters who will decide the outcome are those soccer moms who don’t vote tribally. This is why the trans issue, and the subsequent erosion of women’s rights matters.
