So you will think I am mad but I think the gt3 has to go and I will explain why. So the first 2 years with the gt3 I did 9000 miles ,the last 3 years I have done 5000 miles .This is down to several factors.Firstly I have had 2 ulner nerve transpositions and one frozen shoulder operation all of which meant I could not drive the car for long periods and we also moved away from the cotswolds and up to the shropshire hills ,now this means I do not have the long quiet roads we had on the doorstep in the cotswolds and the gt3 needs these long quiet roads to be able to rev the engine . The roads are also quite poor and although the gt3 ride is not harsh it is firm and I am just finding the opportunity to use it has become much more limited. The nature of the car also means it makes you want to drive very fast all the time it never says 'let's just cruise ' . So I have been looking as you can see,and I was impressed with the aston vantage but found the interior a bit messy and I just can't bring myself to pay for such an expensive car that charges you extra to install carplay . The ferrari was also very very good, much better than I expected but it's not really me so I have narrowed down the field as follows and ended up looking at 911s again. A 911 gts of which I would prefer a roofless one and below is a very nicely specced one but at those prices there is another option as per below. linkalternatively .. linkwhat is appealing about the turbo is it is specced up to be a turbo s and as a turbo it will always feel more special than a gts. There are two wild cards ,I do really like the jag f type and the last ever ones are available and I can envisage a BRG with tan interior being a lot of fun,the other is an aston vanquish. The v12 vantage is another car I have always wanted but the dog leg manual box is really off putting as it really is not a nice thing to use (you can see in the videos it is not a nice box) and the alternative transmission they have is even worse so the vanquish with its 8 speed proper auto and to my mind gorgeous looks is another option.

Why you think a Turbo will feel more special than a GTS?
What about a c2020 DBS? Interior tech isn’t great (but better than a Vanquish), but it’s a lovely looking machine. S

That's stunning. I've seen a couple of F-Types in the very dark green and they look pretty good too.

Welcome to Shropshire! Whereabouts are you? You are right about the roads in the hills - lots of twisties and ups and downs, but not your long rolling Cotswolds roads, and yes the road surface can be awful. And in those areas where a good blast can be had - like across the top of the Long Mynd at a quiet time, you're quite likely to hit a few wandering sheep or even worse a pony. Your ideal performance "car" is probably a Ford Ranger Raptor or a supercharged Range Rover Out of your options I like the F-Type idea. Maybe even a P450 rather than an R. A suitable blend of comfort, sportiness and more usable V8 performance.

PG I'm in stretton westwood which is 1 mile outside Much Wenlock
The dbs is very lovely but too big .
ED the targas are the best looking 911s imo but speaking to a few people they drive very differently from the other cars with all that weight high up .
Andy..the funny thing is I looked at that car a while back, but they are so noisy I had to eliminate it form the list
Alex I drove the AMG GTS when they came out and didn't like a lot of things about it ,the ride was too frim and the view you have is like driving a letterbox .but they look amazing.
Martin I have had turbos and GTS and turbos are just iconic in a way that gts will never be ,and they are better cars basically in my experience although the latest gts models do steal quite a few bits from the turbos.

Do later F types ride well? The early ones were panned for being too stiff, which is very much at odds with what Jaaags should be about. If they ride anything like my XFR - which is a proper magic carpet ride and sails over potholes and all the crap we have on our roads with comfort that astounds my BMW "M" owning friends - I'm certainly interested in a RWD F Type R at some point.
I feel your pain, my Boxster - on 18's and the active suspension - supposedly rides the best in the range, when I collected it all the people at that specialist that had driven it said the suspension felt like new, it rides like a PoS in my view on bad roads - just smashes over them making horrible sounds and feeling jittery and highly uncomfortable. All types of speed bump are no funm it really thrives on well surfaces roads. So I imagine the specialist limited edition Porsches really can rattle your fillings on typical UK roads...... Get something you can still enjoy on the crappiest ones!

F-Types are great value used particularly if you pay attention to the spec. 75 edition cars are loaded, but then so are the earlier black edition cars which are filtering through. Jaguar ex management cars are full kitchen sink spec. There are two points of vital importance as regards facelift v8 models: 1) As soon as you get one, you need to remove fuse 15 which controls the active exhaust. The valves are spring loaded and their default fail safe position is open and they are electronically controlled when the engine is on. Without the fuse, the 3500 rpm restriction is removed and they sound absolutely filthy at all rpm. 2) The P450 is just a restricted P575, so if you are so inclined you can pay paramount performance £599 and they remap the P450 to 600 bhp and 550 lbs ft paramount-performance.com/jaguar-f-type-p450-tuning-and-remapping.html#tab-title-descriptionThe P575 (R) has different suspension and steering calibration as well as running wider wheels and tyres (305 back, 265 front compared to 295 back, 255 front on the P450) plus a few other trinkets that mark it out as an R. If you are a lunatic and want rear wheel drive, then you need a P450, but if it’s an all weather car, RWD quickly gets on your tits. Besides the AWD system is rear wheel biased on demand anyway so it still does monster skids if you want it to whilst firing off the line in the wet when required. For context, Car and Driver ran the numbers on a RWD P450 convertible and a P575 Coupe. The R was 0.5 seconds quicker to 60 and 1.3 seconds quicker to 100 and 3.9 seconds quicker to 150 mph

I love the corvette ,always had a soft spot for them and these new ones are meant to be fantastic to drive, but the looks are very odd indeed.
I really am not finding much that really gives me the 'must get one of those ' ,I will probably try a Porsche gts this week as the guys I bought the macan off have a very nicely specced one in stock.

A client of mine who has climbed through the Porsche ranks from Cayman through GTS , 911S and 911 GTS, thinks his current Turbo is by far the best. Supple enough for the poor Glasgow roads but ballistically quick and really well tied down.

Funnily enough there are a few track tests of the 992 gt3 vs 992 turbo and the turbo is not only faster on many tracks but the testers prefer the turbo .

There's a good CarWow vid of GT3 vs Turbo S at Spa Francorchamps if you haven't seen it. Matt from Car wow likes the Turbo and the pro prefers the GT3. I'm sure we're all in the amateur category and therefore the Turbo would suit us a lot bettter. It might not set your pants on fire like the GT3 however.

So, I may get kicked off the forum for this, but..... 911 Dakar?
The price seems ridiculous but the reviews are very strong and it feels incredibly special to me. A limited edition 911 with loads of "GT" bits, suspension more suited to actual UK roads, more approachable handling.... What's not to like? I mean, are UK roads going to get any better??? In one of these you could hoon about the roughest Scottish minor roads in comfort, and - having witnessed first hand Italian mountain roads - its not just here that they are useless!

I use a lot of dirt roads when I’m in Australia. I was using my sisters Isuzu when I was out there but also briefly used a Mercedes C class compact, whatever that was called, and it rode them far better although I expect the longevity would be compromised. I’d read about the Dakar and thought that’d be the ultimate car to own out there for rapid travel between the wheatbelt and Perth.

I think there is a whole lot of sense in there James. Whenever I play BOTB I always throw in an Ariel Nomad for that very reason but a 911 that could do the same would be something special whilst maybe losing a bit of the street appeal.

Funny you mention …I specced one up when they were announced. .Unfortunately there were several options which at that point you had to put on ,like the Roth man’s paint scheme or whatever it was which when added together made the car I specced £215,000 . I didn’t see a raised gts being worth that .
I see they now have made the option an option and cars are being delivered without that paint scheme but it was it was then so that put me off . Looks odd as well .
