Was off yesterday and next week too. First time off this year but it started with the wife feeling faint and ending up being taken to A&E by paramedics who found her blood pressure so high they were worried she'd have a stroke! She's now spending the week getting used to the idea of being on beta blockers for the rest of her life so its fair to say we won't be doing much this week! A bit of a shocker! I hope they get it sorted for her soon. I know a few people on blood pressure medication. It can take a while to find the right balance of meds, but it works well when the answer is found. Hope she gets sorted out soon Alex One of the possible side effects of blood pressure medication is an irritating cough - particularly unwelcome over the last 3 years. However I'm told this is a symptom of the meds not being quite right for the patient and if it occurs they should go back to their GP and ask for a different one.

Sorry to hear about that Alex. Hope Mrs Alex feels more like herself soon. Thanks Pete and everyone else who commented, she's getting there. Meds have bought her BP down to normal but she's still getting tired really easily so can't do a lot. More blood tests this morning which I think is to look at hormone levels as they think she may be going through early menopause (very early at 39!) Beta Blockers can be horrible. I was put on them as part of the standard cocktail, but after a month of feeling exhausted and drugged up I persuaded the doctor to let me stop them and have been fine on ACE inhibitors. I was on a slow release Calcium Channel Blocker as well, but there was a manufacturing problem a couple of years ago and the brand was unavailable. The alternative did the same as the Beta Blockers. Hope she manages to get sorted.

It's making her feel constantly cold and needing to wrap up in a blanket whilst the rest of us are in tee shirts. She feels the cold anyway but right now just can't get her core body temp up.

Up on Brown How, Lingmoor and Side Pike yesterday. That gave us a good view of the horseshoe ridge walk we did on Sunday Stunning view to Side Pike, with the Langdale Pikes behind Awoke to snow covered mountains this morning It sure is a beautiful part of the country. We really enjoyed our short break in the Lakes last year.

You mentioned they were going to investigate early onset menopause - definitely worth looking into. A friend of ours has been on HRT since her late 30's as she suffered terribly with early onset menopause.

Booked a holiday yesterday for early June. Despite all my traveling over the past 10 years, we’ve not had an actual holiday. It’s a cheap package deal in the algarve and I’m really looking forward to it. 50 metres from the beach and a few minutes walk to the town centre. Taking the kids with us as it’ll probably be the last time they all want to go away as a family.

I really like the Algarve, hope you have a great time. Some Greek friends of ours have a small hotel on Crete so we’re going there in June for their 20th anniversary since opening party. All the staff have the night off and are invited (they’re being replaced for that night by people from the village).

We just spent two hours on a train to Bologna airport sat next to a pleasant softly-spoken Ukrainian couple our age who are refugees here in Italy with their kids from a place called Nikopol. Quite instructive hearing about all their experiences first hand - it’s the first time I’ve heard directly from first hand witnesses who aren’t journalists.

Didn’t think anyone under 60 could leave

Apparently you could if you have three or more children.

Alex, missed that news, sorry. I hope she can find a decent balance and improve soon, the menopause thing worth checking out.
Rodge, a holiday, bloody good idea too. Perhaps Alex and the other half can go on a jaunt soon as she is feeling a bit better. Good for a lot that ails us.

Would love to book a holiday but my youngest can't stay away from home overnight at the moment so it's a bit of a non starter really. Good job I get to travel about for work quite a bit - although tomorrow's trip to the exotic land of Slough doesn't elicit much excitement!

I’m on beta blockers myself. They take a bit of acclimatisation but make a massive difference for me.
