I presume you're joking?
That's one of the ugliest cars I've ever seen.

Ugly and phenomenally (a popular word in this article) pointless. The interior looks fabulous but you need to walk past the outside to access it. Another car made for fully paid up members of the RNIB, who can feel the comfort and quality without having to look at the outside.

It’s like a student internship project. I’ve no idea what M stands for, they seem better at a type of luxury interior than performance.

Funnily enough I was at a restaurant yesterday with a friend and the owner had one of these i60's and if you get past the front the side and rear are not too bad and the interior as mentioned is actually very nice.

As a friend once said to me, (She called Bess the yellow HEARSE), as long as you are happy when you are inside it's fine. The outside, you would need new optics.

I've read the article now. It's not great is it.
The interior might be nice enough but there are plenty of questionable features. The fancy lighting around the sunroof that doesn't quite reach to the corners is one. These flat panel instrument displays aren't nice either - seems like the designers have been overcome with the desire to make them as big as possible and then filled them with tiny graphics that presumably tell you everything about the car and surrounding world but compare it with a 1990s BMW instrument panel and tell me how its better for the intended purpose?
TBH the interior could be the best ever seen on a car but I couldn't bear having to look at the outside.
Oh and finally "Size-wise, the XM sits between the X5 and X7, so the footprint is sensible". Er, no. It's way too big for our roads and for the amount of space it has inside.

I get the feeling these are desinged for the USA and PRC markets but if folk are generally getting, bigger, possibly not.

The interior to be fair is rather fabulous, I might go to the configurator and see if you can get rid of the gold or if there is a black pack. In Stealth black it might not be quite so shocking. Its not really built for these shores though is it.

It's not designed for Europe. It's designed for America, where M stands for More Money than Taste, and China where it stands for Look at Me. It will therefore be hugely successful in those markets and enough people will buy it in Europe (because they'd buy a pile of poo that had BMW on it or they have no taste whatsoever) to allow BMW to justify that their "edginess" (i.e. downright ugly design) was right all along. Which will allow them to up the ante even more for the next iteration.

Christ that's awful.
I can see the thrusting 30-something gym bunnies replacing their RR SVRs with this though.

I think that ship sailed a few decades ago.... I think you'll find that old tub is tied up in dock, listing badly to one side.
