My local dealer invited me to their "VIP" event being held today and tomorrow so I accepted and stopped off on the way home from work.
I'm unconvinced by the rear-end styling and the black arrowhead around the front foglamps smacks of cheapness as the surround really ought to be painted to match the bumper IMHO. The car looks and feels slightly bigger inside, there seems quite a bit more space to the left of the driver's footwell too.
The colours available exceed what is currently on the website (for example there was quite a pleasant pale copper colour) and there are others to follow too, so I wonder how long before there is a printed brochure available or the website is updated.
I was even allowed an accompanied test drive; only got to do around 5 miles due to evening rush-hour traffic but there's noticeably more low-down urge than in my ecoboost100, the gearshift is much sweeter and slicker and it rides over speedbumps much better too. The interior is kind of better to look at, if you don't mind the tablet-style infotainment screen that lloks like an afterthought, much like those of many other manufacturers. At least a mute button has been added to Sync3 even if it's on the steering wheel rather than the system itself (there are now a lot of buttons on the wheel, both sides of the top 2 spokes), but radiotext appears to still be missing from Sync3, unlike on the Sony system in my Fiesta. There is also a one-touch button to cut the screen display and leave you with a large black pane of glass.....
Interestingly (?) all the cars at the event were on Michelin tyres whereas mine and most of the Fiestas I see at the dealership are on Contis.
So, yes the car is an improvement on the current model for sure, but whether or not it's a big enough step for me to take the plunge in the second quarter of next year when my PCP runs out is another matter; there's also the issue of £130 VED annually rather than £0 !
