So I seem to recall reading on average you should experience a puncture or similar once every seven years.
Last friday I noticed a deflated rear tyre on the Cayenne so ended up buying a new tyre as a nail was embedded near the sidewall. They gave me a quote of £205 which was cheaper then I paid for 4 tyres from blackcircles 5 months ago .I got in the car this morning and noticed a bulge in the front left tyre so another new tyre needed (as an aside when I rang up and asked them to order me a new tyre he quoted £315 and I said it was £205 on Monday when you fitted the exact same tyre ,to which he said 'ok then its £205) So how unlucky is it to need 2 new tyres within 6 months of replacing all 4 and then I realised this is the 4th time upon going to a tyre fitter that I have required another tyre within a day or two.
Is this just ridiculous bad luck or am I getting paranoid about tyre fitters ?

Coincidence? I replaced 2 tyres on my 320 not long after I got it and within a week 'celebrated' by going through a massive pothole which, eventually, materialised into a bulge in both nearside tyres so I had to replace a 4 week old tyre (plus both 3/4 worn rears).

Well, as I have regaled you all in the past, at one point 4 punctures in 3 months, with 2 on the same day... mind you one wasn't mine. That was elder daughter's former Auris that I took to a tyre place on one of her visits here as she had a slow puncture. In the afternoon the Ka picked up a puncture from a Stanley knife blade meaning it needed a puncture repair. At the time it had under 1000 miles on the clock. The Ka picked up 3 punctures in about 20 months that I had it, and under 15000 miles. I think that the average of once every 7 years is wrong now, probably due to the state of our roads if nothing else. I just hope I don't get one in the Polo because when I'd only had it a few weeks I thought I'd do a practice wheel change, and the rear offside wouldn't come off, corroded to the hub and although I gave it a fair tug and a whack or two with a rubber mallet it wouldn't budge. It's due a service and MoT later this month and I must remember to ask the dealer to try to remove all the wheels as part of the work; can't believe it's nearly a year since I bought it, in which time I've become somewhat attached to it

Just paid £275 per tyre today for 2 rears on the 911.
The inside edge was down to the cord outsides still had at least 5mm.

The average stat is not representative. If you’re more likely to drive on a road covered in nails you’re more likely to get a puncture.

I have lived in 4 different houses in the last 30 years,3 of which in completely different counties .I reckon in 30 years I have had over 25 punctures and I will accept that maybe the size of tyres of the cars I drive means there is more chance of picking up a puncture but I cannot accept I keep moving to areas with loads of nails in the road.

We have a great joiner who has does work for us on all our houses for the last 20 years. His van though just drips screws and it is quite possible that screws fall out every time he opens a door or drags a tool box out. I got 2 punctures within a week and had to replace two virtually brand new tyres just after a visit about 15 year ago. As a consequence I bought a metal detector and the driveway always gets a full sweep after he has been and before I put my car anywhere near it!
I hate the feeling that even responding to this thread is an invitation for doom to descend!

It’s hedge cutting season around here and it’s thorns through the tyre I worry about. To profile me, I’d be at higher risk of a puncture at this time of year than I might be on early summer. A person who more often drives into industrial area (assumption being more damaging debris) would be more likely than someone who doesn’t. There may be something in the places you’re more likely to go. Or it could just be your tyre unlucky!

It’s hedge cutting season around here and it’s thorns through the tyre I worry about. My mower has slow punctures in both offside tyres and the trailer I use with it has a flat left tyre. All, I'm sure, as a result of hedge cutting although in this case me rather than the local contractor since they now don't do domestic hedges We had an odd (looking) bay window removed from the house in October, it was only 10 years old, timber framed and consequently nail central. I spent a whole day checking the area around it as it jutted out onto the drive. So far so good but I am still finding the occasional nail.

I’ve got it in mine, this stuff: www.briantsltd.co.uk/product/oko-tyre-sealant-wheel-barrows-and-ride-lawn-mowers/

Soft sports bike tyres have always been metal object magnets. Worse still because commuting on them means I’m in the wash of shite as I filter.
