That sounds like a tutorial on how to do it properly.

That's a really good buy at that money. If they are being retailed around the £4K mark, the used car dealers won't be offering much more than £1,750/£2,000 for it in any case. My guys budget on a minimum £500 spend on cars at this price - normally a warranty, tyres, a service and MOT plus rectifying any MOT faults.

Sounds an absolute bargain (as you say so long as it does not blow up!).

Bit of a bargain that and you can just sell it for a profit or at least what you've paid for it when you're done (sounds like you know someone who'll be interested!)

Yeah I'm pretty sure I'll be able to get rid of it in a few months.
It's a bit of a sluggish starter which seems to indicate it'll need glowplugs. They're under £20 each though

They're under £20 each though I had the same thought with mine in the cold weather the other week. Told by two separate sources (one mechanic, one Halfrauds guy!) it's more likely to be the battery, as I think I mentioned elsewhere at the time. Plugs would be a better option price-wise at least, if only by £20!

Just checked and I can get a battery from them for £60 so that's actually the cheaper option.

A quick update at the end of week 1 and after 200 miles.
It's easy to drive, completely unexciting though. The 4 speed auto isn't a pain probably due to extensive sound deadening. The interior is impressively plasticky but there are no rattles and all trim bits are still firmly in place. Control weights are pretty decent - Mrs Tim thought the steering wasn't right initially but that's because the BMW is so light (and feel free). Fuel economy appears to be settling around high the 40s although, irritatingly, the calculation resets at the start of every journey. The bluetooth connection is the best I've ever used - 2 seconds to set up initially and it reconnects instantly when you've left the car or switched it off, such as for refuelling. BMW, Audi, etc should take note! It's just a pity the stereo is fairly crap. I've ordered 4 new tyres - the fronts are well treaded but are some Chinese make I've never heard of and the rears are barely worn Barums (a reasonable make from the cheaper end of things) that are showing signs of cracking around the shoulders. Michelin Cross Climates are incoming.

With that, you get the overall consumption on page 1, trip A on page 2, trip B on page 3 and digital speedo on page 4. I have Cross Climates on mine now (got them in between Xmas and New Year) and they're magic!

It's not a great starter - it requires a bit of churning when its cold - so I might have to invest in a new battery. If that doesn't fix it then it'll be glow plugs or injectors. Neither is particularly expensive.
