Last one was in 2019 - all since been cancelled because of Covid.
The article mentions Istanbul but I can't remember if that's already on the schedule for next year or if its a possible replacement

Wasn't the Shanghai circuit being used as a Covid testing facility in 2020? The full layout was never used for competition, apart from F1 and WEC. Wouldn't surprise me if its a lot bumpier today, and a return to the circuit would be like a street race trying to lay rubber down. I warmed to the layout in the end.
Istanbul would be great, so would Portimao.

I really don't get what China are all about with "Zero Covid" it will never happen, they are completely trashing their economy with this, over a virus that now, is by and large just a cold!

To be fair most of the rest of the world has also trashed their economy for what has always been a nothing worse than cold in most people. Eg in the UK we decided to lock the country down and borrow a shit ton of cash to pay for people to sit on their arses for months on end rather than actually make a proper effort to protect those the virus really does harm. Zero covid will never work but controlled covid was a possibility once upon a time. Now its endemic within the community there's no way to really control its spread unless you stay locked down forever. Even countries that kept their borders closed for long periods of time such as Oz and NZ have had to open up eventually and as soon as they did it was spreading in their community. |
