G'day folks,
My Nespresso is hardly the last word in cafeine machinery but then it was hardly up there cost wise.
There is a new espresso in the Nespresso range, Infinimente, very good if like most espresso- a bit acidic.
Considering the variety of coffee choice in capsule machinery, where is the performance gain in the very expensive machinery?
Just a thought while watching the gp.

We're very happy with our Delonghi bean to cup machine, cost about £300, with a separate lavataza milk warmer, makes lovely coffee and saves a fortune on pods. You can spend £1000s more and I think all you get is more automation, making fancy coffees at the press of a button etc

We have a Sage machine which makes great coffee once you get it set up. If you stick with one bean it is relatively easy once you have determined the volume of grind and the size of the grind to give you the flavour you like. However if you use different beans there is a good chance you will need to go through the set up every time.
My daughter is a bit of a barista and makes great coffee with shiny milk and great latte art but I can't be bothered with the hassle and a Nespresso machine is so much easier and gives you coffee which is pretty close to an expensive machine. Don't think that spending £1,000 on a coffee machine is going to make the coffee any better unless you are prepared to spend lots of time getting it set up exactly for small incremental improvements in the end product.

The Sage machine was much loved by a coffee taster’s son I once had on a Project. We bought delonghi bean to cup.
I bought my mum a Lavazza pod thing and she’s on her second now. Trouble buying the pods anywhere but Amazon but no matter: I am an Amazon.fr Prime member so my streaming TV works in EU.

My only gripe with instant coffee is that it's fine for the first ten or so cups when you open a jar and falls off after that. Capsules bwing sealed just don't have that issue. I still have instant due to the price. It helps that the Nespresso was bought during a sale and I only buy capsules when there is an offer on. Costa capsules for Nespresso are a false economy due to the failure rate and there being nobody in Costa interested in being told how bad the product is.

Coffee does seem like an awful faff.
Hot water, meet tea bag & milk..

Nespresso continues to be popular, even more so at the moment as they are running 5 x promotions, so my team are sending out 80-90k order a week (normally c50k).
It’s a bigger investment up front, but if you like coffee then a decent bean to cup machine is the way to go.
We bought our machine from JL when the De Longhi rep was demonstrating 5-6 machines and you could tell the difference as you went up the range, probably not enough to justify the extra cost without the added functionality and it was only to a point (around £1,000 at the time). We use quite of bit of the tech in ours, the self cleaning milk system of course, but also the drink customisation which we make use of every time.

They keep trying to sell me the newer (Vertuo) machine but frankly I canot be bothered and I would have to go and buy newer capsules to go with it. Room in the kitchent (Just) for the one machine only so why diversify?

My taste buds are clearly less sensitive than yours. Actually that's probably true because whenever I'm in the office I'm content with bog standard Nescafe

On exercise we used to make do with whatever maxi catering tins we could get for 50p or whatever amd never had a problem with it so maybe being older has something to do with it. I used to like Colemans french mustard like a lot, I cannot stand it now and I doubt they changed it that much. Peppermint and Liquorice sounds gopping but I eventually tried the Hasda be herbal tea and it's not bad.

With the Azera and equivalents you have to shake the jar or all you get is the instant granules, the powdered beans content sinks to the botteom and you are paying too much for instant coffee alone.

I have a 7 year old Nespresso machine, it is perfect for that quick hit that I like occasionally, if I want a mug of coffee I use an Aeropress.
We do have instant, Aldi's version of Azera which is decent enough, the guests tend to get that!!
I have simple taste in coffee, strong, decent quality and black.

Being Italian, Mrs RT won’t be parted from her Bialetti Moka pot, so we use that, with Kimbo, Lavazza or Illy ground coffee.

Yep, W2.1 rues the day I purchased an induction hob and told her that the coffee pot had to reside in a box in the garage for the foreseeable. I introduced a colleague's wife to Illy coffee beans and he stopped talking to me after a couple of months' increased shopping bills.

Hello. My name's Tim and I like instant coffee........ Fine for me too although I tend to get the Nescafe Azera if it's on offer. Otherwise the off brand equivalent is enough for me to feel a bit more alive in the morning.

Although not being aware of any Italian blood in this household, we also tend to use a Bialetti. It's quick, simple and makes good coffee. I freshly grind the beans each time, which is so much better than using ready-ground coffee.

Am I right in thinking that you can get a metal disc type thing for use under unsuitable items on an induction hob? In fact, I seem to remember this being the very arrangement in our Italian holiday apartment earlier this year.

We had a coffee machine years ago and found cleaning it a real faff (before self cleaning was ever a thing), so out it went. Since then we use individual sized cafetieres - proper for the Mrs and decaf for me. We do buy beans and have a grinder - tastes much better than pre-ground that like instant goes "off" much quicker than it has any right to. I'm no coffee afficionado though - I like it weak. Because I have such a refined palate.
