Weekend in den Haag. Hotel car park in the city centre. It costs extra.
Receptionist: I apologise sir; as you know parking in Holland is expensive. It’s €32 per day.
Me: (laughs). That’s about 2 hours at some places in London. Maybe 4.
Receptionist: you’re joking!
W2.1: No. Holland is expensive for Europe but not compared to London!
He then let our kids have free soft drinks from the chiller, probably in cost-of-living sympathy. He also didn’t believe it was 6 hours door-door in our car, which isn’t far off the door-door time by air, if not better, with none of the hassle.
