I left the house this morning to go to the NEC Classic car Show. Mrs PG said "maybe you'll see something you like"..... Well in fact, as we (Andy, Bryan, his boss Sean and I) wandered around the dealer hall a rather nice metallic blue convertible caught my eye. Long story short....deposit paid! MOT and a couple of minor bits and pieces to be sorted and they'll call me when it is ready to collect. Big surprise - it's not a Jag. No. It's a 2005 Mk 1 Audi TT convertible. 3.2 manual no less (pretty rare) and in very good condition with only 63k miles on it. Metallic blue with a blue hood. First lady owner (lots of paperwork present) didn't scrimp on the options, so stuffed full of FG of the era too. Electric hood (I think was standard), Bose sound, xenons and the coolest electrically operated glass rear deflector screen that appears magically behind the seats. The interior is grey leather with black facia and wheel. I deny that it is paedo grey - it's darker than that, he says quickly. And I think the previous owner left her hair-dressing equipment in the boot too - double bonus. It's from a dealer in Lytham St Annes so I'll need to work out collection logistics when it is ready. We have friends who live in Arnside, South Cumbria, so might be able to combine the two into a trip. A few pictures -
With special thanks to Andy, Bryan and Sean for the encouragement.

The best purchases are always the impulse ones. Love the colour combo, it’s the same as my old 993.

It is in great condition and rightly got a lot of attention on the stand.
I love the picture of Andy, Shaun and I cooking up the next negotiating tactic for Peter to use! Got a great car there!👍

I relly liked the TT back when it came out in the late 90s and then it turned into a bit of a guilty pleasure as it gained a reputation as being a fancy Golf 4 which I thought was a tad unfair. Now they're starting to become much more appreciated and if yours is a good one it's value should go up rather than down. I like that the mk1 has a lot of quirks from the original concept car which were lost on the mk2 models.

My opposite neighbour has the hardtop version in this very colour and has had it for the 11 years we’ve lived here. His American wife struggles to get to grips as to why it’s so coveted. As their son drives an immaculate Integra Type R it’s clearly passed through the male genes.
Nice colour and looking at your grin when sat in it it’s clearly the car for you. These engines sound nice too. Great buy.

Not sure we checked to see if there was a cd changer in the glovebox? It's got pretty much all of the options ticked

That’s exciting, well done. Can you not collect the car while it’s at the NEC? I’m sure the seller would be glad not to cart it back up north.

I know sometimes dealerships have to prepare cars for sale if they've only just come in but if they're taking it to the NEC Classic show surely they'd get it properly prepared for sale.

I had a MkI TT Coupe 225 for 3 years from 2000 and optioned the CD changer!

I had a MkI TT Coupe 225 for 3 years from 2000 and optioned the CD changer! I did a search on CarVertical on the car. It shows the original build spec and it does have a CD changer according to that. Although it's location does remain a mystery. I'm making a list of things to check when I pick it up - like is the CD changer there (somewhere) and does it work.

Thanks, have downloaded it. I'm not sure what blue it actually is yet - it's either Mauritius Blue or Sprint blue from image searches.

Yes indeed - that's why I insisted on a year's MOT. Plus they need to do some other jobs - like a few paint scratches. OK, it means I have to go up to Lytham to collect it but that only a couple of hours from us.

I think sprint blue is the one used on RS models so it must be Mauritius blue. I'd have been surprised if you could get sprint blue on a mk1 TT as they never did an S or RS model. Maybe it was an option on the TT Sport model?

I think it is denim blue, it doesn't look like either of the Blues in the brochure

Looks like a good car and in a nice colour.
You're right about the interior - that's too dark for paedo grey.

CD changer? Has it got an 8- track as well? 😆
There are plenty of products that swap the cd changer for a hard drive and / or bluetooth to cast Spotify to the head unit 😉
See, I’m down with the kids, me. Now, where’s my Nick Heywood wooly jumper?

Very nice and a proper manual instead of the potentially ruinous early DSG.

Some new neighbours moved into our cul-de-sac and they have the exact same car, colour and everything, as well as a Volvo 760 and a 2005 5 series Touring. It brought back memories of my TT - a 2004 180hp manual coupe, with upgraded wheels.

CD changer is in the left armrest of the rear seat: Google says on the Roadster it is behind the front seats - although that was as specific as I could find. So that'll be ferreting about behind the front seats looking to see if one if there. Not a very handy place if you want to quickly swap some discs over at the traffic lights.....
