7 years ago my inlaws' neighbour side swiped the Scirocco whilst pulling out of her parking space. Her insurance paid and it was all repaired - most of the damage was just ahead of the rear wheel but the new paint extended to above the window and half way down the door to blend it in. Then a little later someone scuffed the rear bumper in a car park - I just paid for that to be fixed. Then earlier this year the paint started fading, micro blistering, then crazing then peeling off. After 7 years I thought, ah well it's one of those things and took it for a quote for the side to be repainted. "I know it was 7 years ago, but that shouldn't have happened" said the bodyshop manager - "I'll see if we can at least get the paint company to supply the paint for free." Took a few weeks, but a rep came down from the paint company and agreed there must have been a problem. This was in May. The bodyshop manager chased and chased them, eventually, last week, they said they were sending a tech guy down to supervise the repair and check all that was was as it should have been. Standards are high at this place - the owner (a long time friend) is a classic nut and has had cars featured in magazines. When I dropped it off, I just said, "if it's as good as your Mini (which was stunning), I'll be very happy. Here's the result - side repainted and rear bumper done as well (which also sorted a couple of loading blemishes I'd inflicted on it) - superb job as expected and the amount I had to contribute? Nil, nada, zilch.

It’s nice when this happens.
I had the alternator replaced on my Fireblade years out of warranty because Honda Japan were embarrassed an item like that could ever fail. A supplier had been removed and a dictat issued worldwide that RR6 ‘Blades had a free alternator if there was a failure of the original part at any age.

That's fantastic service which is missing from so many encounters these days. However I would think the fact that you know the bodyshop owner perhaps plays a big part too.

Not sure that does now to be honest - he seems to have taken quite a back seat recently and when I first visited the manager for the quote, I'm not sure he was even aware of the friendship (the day I dropped it off was the first time I've seen the owner there for ages) - but he may have mentioned it to the owner and had some extra encouragement to sort it. Used to be part owned buy the Vauxhall dealership which always gave me fantastic service so it might be in the DNA - but of course it was down to the paint company in the end - I got the impression they picked up most of if not all of the tab.

That's great and will preserve the looks of the Scirocco for years to come. Still looks good that car so I can see why you've not replaced it. They have aged rather well, certainly better than the mk5 Golf and I suspect its only the now out of date infotainment that shows up the age of the interior.

It is nice when folk step up and fix problems, almost enough to repair trust levels.

Probably very dated by todays standards but that’s fine by me as I’m not big on infotainment - the Mini is a bit more advanced but I never really use anything bar the radio - the Elgrand is even worse - radio 2 and that’s it! You can get a kit to install Apple Car play but when a mate showed me his, my reaction was, “So it’s really just your phone then?” “Well, yeah” So I bought a dash phone holder and a thingy that transmits the phone through the cars system - total investment £30 and it’s bang up to date

That is excellent customer service. Nice to see that some places still take pride in their work and will sort an issue, even years later.
