You can't blame them I guess.
Our insistence on the ban on ICE isn't BMW's fault. Given they sell the Mini on the cool Britannia vibe it does seem a bit much that it will be made overseas. I guess no gigafactory in the UK means no production.

BMW has already said that Oxford is earmarked for electric MINI production as part of their agreement with Great wall, commencing once capacity opens up as ICE models are phased out. Typical, poorly researched BBC article.

Typical, poorly researched BBC article. I sincerely hope that comes to fruition. This future commitment wasn't mentioned in the recent Autocar article on the subject either. So I hope it's not just BMW PR guff and then in 5 years time, oh well, oh dear, people have got used to buying Minis made in China (no doubt still emblazoned with the Union flag) and it's too expensive to change Oxford and so, we're really sorry but we're closing it.

What are Friday's lottery numbers? You KNOW this is what's going to happen.

The idea of net zero means that importing cars from China will not really be viable on a wholesale basis so the existing European plants will need to be repurposed one way or another.
There is also plenty of time for synthetic, plant-based fuels to make it over the line when everyone works out that they're available sooner than batteries made out of cow manure as opposed to industrially mined rare metals.

Actually it was in the Autocar article about the strategy a few weeks ago. Then it popped up in the mainstream press without this fact.
