While I was in Germany last week, my wife answered a knock on the door to find Mrs Plod there. Apparently at about 11:40pm the night before I left, the neighbours were relieved of the cat on their MX-5; another neighbour disturbed them but it was too late. Looking at the DVLA site, it's a mid 2005 car with about 70k on the clock. It was parked on their driveway which has a slope of about 1 in 4 downwards towards their garage (I don't understand why with 2 garages they leave both their cars in front of their garages and don't clear out at least one to put a car away every night... they're both retired).
So there's value in a 17-year old cat? Apparently there's been a spate of MX-5 cat thefts in our area, cut and removed in a couple of minutes from a car that's very low to the ground without having to jack it up. The car was gone today when I got home from work (they started it up a couple of evenings ago, so I know that the cat was still missing then), just hope that they have some anti-theft work done or else the thieves may be back for the new cat on its return.....

I've dumped the ones I took off the Discovery in the scrap pile. Maybe I had better get them weighed in sooner rather than later.

There must still be bent scrapyard dealers around, I thought that used cats could only be disposed of through proper channels, yet the villains can still get money for their loot
