Looks like evolution rather than revolution. My only disappointment is the aparent use of virtual dials, rather than proper items. The instruments in a Royce should be crafted like a Swiss watch.

It would save a lot of money using a generic TFT screen that's likely shared with cars a fraction of the price, I suppose it's the way things are now but then also why invest in spending a lot on something only the driver is going to see? I would hope they'd reallocate those savings to engineering stuff the passenger will experience to a point way beyond 'normal' cars.

Why is one side taller than the other?

Looks a little 2 dimensional to me.

Why is one side taller than the other? Looks like a picture has been taken of a screen so it's a bit distorted.

I call shenanigans. Taking a closer look, the grille on the first Autocar picture is different to that on the official RR picture shown later. In fact the first Autocar picture is so full of errors it is clearly a photoshop effort.

I don't think it's a photoshop in that sense, it's a CGI from the online configurator so it's representative. I've also no doubt at all that Rolls Royce have leaked this.

I know it was never going to be a radical design but its disappointingly similar to the outgoing model, especially the dash that looks near identical which is a current low point of the Phantom for me.

That's very disappointing. No radical redesign more of a quick nip and tuck to the headlights and redesign the front bumper. Save for some new dials, which i agree in a Rolls shouldn't be digital TFT affairs rather than precison bespoke dials the design hasn't changed one bit. Where are the glass buttons from the Ghost.
I expected more. Left very disappointed

Those with the wherewithal to invest in one will find the conservative design update to be just to their liking and enjoy the new, more radical and certainly opulent interior details and options. It looks exactly as most current Phantom owners want it to look with just enough to differentiate it from the old model.

I watch a live stream of the launch yesterday. I shall need to see more photos, but it maybe looks a bit boxy to me and the wheels almost look too small. Other than that, there is lots to like and I am sure it will move road transport to a higher level.
I shall have to see if I can get to have a drive in one like I did with the previous model.

That seems better-looking overall and slightly more elegant than the previous Phantom, which was extremely ugly. It also wears two-tone paint probably better than a single shade. But it must be said that the overall effect is still much more Burj Khalifa than Chatsworth. It's the detailing which, at least in that one, is excessively tinselly and lets down an otherwise relatively dignified shape.
What's with all the shiny black plastic inside? Perhaps it's meant to imitate (or is) Bakelite, but to me in those photos it looks very cheap. And bugger only knows why the dash plinth woodwork has been modelled after a well advanced game of Jenga.

I can't help but think that Rolls Royce have turned what was always seen as a coachbuilt, hand crafted, engineered carriage into a very expensive replacement for the defunct Maybach 65S. Especially that rear butress shape and boot shape totally remind me of the Maybach. And I can't help thinking that part of the appeal of the previous Phantom interior was that the technology was hidden. Now it's a glorified S class Merc driver environment - lots of big screens.
So, a perfect upgrade for the crass, well monied set that will be the bulk of customers. Were I shopping in this segment, then I'd take a Bentley Mulsanne over this every day. But then I'm not a target customer so WTF do I know or matter.

Whether you are a target customer, know or matter is immaterial! Same goes for me. Doesn't stop me venturing my firm opinions on the matter!

I don't know if it's the paint scheme on this but it looks very cartoonish. It's something Cruella DeVille might drive.

For me, he disappointment is in some of the detailing of the more common parts. Two examples being the lock on the door. It's keyless so why not hide it like every other car does these days? It's not even a specially crafted lock! The parking sensors too are indented. My Golf manages to have its sensors sit flush with the body work so why can't RR manage it?

Even if I had the means I doubt I would ever buy one, but for the type of car, I think it still looks great and Rolls have managed to keep it in a different league to any other luxury barge.
Amazing how the basic shape and look of the car hasn't dated - not many 15 year old cars (by the time it's replaced) you can say that of.

OMG that interior.
Essex sun-tan orange is not a pleasant environment.
