Staying on the mug theme, and on similar lines to a discussion on the Chris Evans show this morning, do you have a favourite mug? One that, if it got broken, you would be quite upset about? I have an Indianapolis Police Department mug that a good friend, an officer with the IPD, gave to me on a visit I made about 14 years ago. It's a good quality, American sized coffee mug and I absolutely treasure it. If it breaks I will be gutted. Seems silly, but it's a reminder of a very special visit and some good memories.

I've got an old Wallace and Grommit one I'm quite fond of but my favourite is a space one that's heat sensitive and shows up the constellations when a hot drink is poured in.

Yes, I have a mug with a couple of Bryan Parry scenes. "Fun Shoot/Serious Shoot". Lindsey got me it years ago for a birthday.

I have one Herself bought me when we first 'went out'; 13 years and counting.
My work one is nothing special, being one of the quintillion-and-one different Guinness mugs; but it's just the right size and cools my coffee at the almost perfect rate. I'd be gutted if anything happened to either of them.

Mine, a birthday present from my sister. Made of tin so it can't be accidentally smashed to pieces.

I never thought about it but I guess it's probably this one which I've had for ages, is usefully big and reflects me quite well:

It looks green to me too.
My favourite one at work is a lens mug that elder daughter gave me for Christmas a few years back (one of those mugs that looks like a camera lens but is an insulated mug with no handle)

This one. It was a 30th Birthday present from my wife so is now close to 7 years old. I keep it at work where it is less likely to get damaged.

That's working out really well!!
I had a mug that I bought from Tesco, nothing fancy - just red with white stars on it - but I don't think I ever made a bad cup of coffee in it. Sadly I broke it on the tap in the kitchen of our old office the day before we relocated. Tesco stopped making them a few years ago.
Now I've got a Mr Perfect one for work. I tell everybody that queries it that the cup doesn't lie

No to the favourite mug: I have favouritish ones (a Tintin one at present) but I suppose I have a mirror effect Epcot Centre mug from 1985 when we had a long weekend at DisneyWorld. It was my work mug in my first job in 1988 and somehow or other it has survived. I would be upset if it were now broken but it can't be a favourite as I don't actually use it. In my Westminster office I have one given to me by T1 which says: "Congratulations Dad, you created a Legend" (not sure if he means me or him!) and here in the City office I use the general mugs provided principally because I haven't remembered to bring in my Arsenal mug (no comments about "Arsenal" and "mug" being close bedfellows).
I had two members of staff come to blows over a mug in the office when I was in Paddington Stn. around 12 years ago. I had to do the whole disciplinary bollocks and everything afterwards. Perhaps that has tempered my mug-related tendencies.

This is my second favourite. My favourite was from the same local pottery as this one, darker blue, but a big bigger and with a nice plain handle. Sadly I broke it a couple of months ago and I fear this one is now cracked too. We've had them 10 years and then we break two in sucession. Looks like a trip to Ludlow is required to get some more.

That's not blue, it's brown.

The (blue, not grey or brown) IPD mug, in all its fading glory.

I have two, one is from Wales and a particular cafe in Snowdonia called Pete's Eats, a popular hiking/walking/climbing type mecca. The other was bought for me by Sara, the last mug she got me. It has a cartoon character to get me out of my moody side, MR Gumpy is the character. A reminder to stop taking things so seriously. Several insulated mugs, some in aluminium that are great in the winter. A tip for tea and coffee stains in mugs, A teaspoon of washing powder and fill the mug to the brim with very hot water. Leave to cool and all you need to do is rinse the mug out, no scouring at all. Reduces the chance of cracking the mug on a tap.

I don't really have a favourite to be honest. I've never had one given to me that had any special value.

I don't have a favourite but I do like my Striker mug, a football cartoon that ran in the Sun some years ago and spawned a weekly paperback magazine which I bought the whole series off and have safely stored away. That or I use a Golf GTi MkI Haynes Manual mug but usually just one of the stock Sainsbury's flowery ones we have on a mug tree

The only problem with this mug is its size. A couple of these full of tea and I'm peeing like a race horse.
