There’s some great sites Around the UK . Some popular static sites you can pull up to and use the facilities too (John fowler/haven types) but also some secluded touring only sites in places like mid wales, Pembrokeshire , Norfolk

I love the way you have a dog each while watching TV. Very equitable and fair - on you and the dogs.

Used to do it many years ago - perfect holidays when the kids were small, mostly in France were sites tended to be more a 'place in a field' than UK sites - but we had the benefit of a caravan that we could borrow when needed - we did consider buying one when our 'free' one got sold, but living at the seaside and first hobby being boating, decided we wouldn't get enough use of it to justify the cost. Our tow-cars tended to raise eye brows... (as well as this, we caravanned with a Calibra, a Xedos 6 and a Cougar)

That's pretty cool IMO. The current site is just a field with electric and water, no kids and about 12 pitches in total.
As a first timer, I didn't expect to find it relaxing, but I have relaxed more than I would in a hotel.

As I get older, caravanning is becoming more appealing. Had we stayed in the US for longer, it would have been on our to do list in the next few years.
I’ve thought about it here too. The freedom to just go and have everything with you is great.
How is the Caorunn? Mrs. R is a gin fan and I’d like to get her a bottle of something decent for the new house.

Just got back from the LRO show at East of England Showground at Peterborough.
We usually tent it, but I took the caravan and my mates borrowed the tent. Best night's sleep I've ever had at the show and its facilities were much appreciated by me. It pissed it down so I got to pack away a wet tent and put it back up when I got home.
Interestingly, I cruised at a stable 65-70 all the way there and back and was easily the fastest outfit on the road. The pickup, especially with a load, seems well suited.

Lovely bit of the world you live in Mark. Looks a really nice place to explore. You certainly know how to wear out your dogs!

18 months on from the first post, Lindsey and I have decided that we are actually "Caravanners".
We love the cheap site fees and the fact we have a personal space which you dont get with a hotel room and the spontinaety of being able to sod off at a moment's notice.
We are upgrading the van. We love this van (it was our first) but we dislike having to put the bed up each night and take it down each morning. A fixed end island bed is on the cards with centre washroom. Chayse the whippet didn't do so well in kennels last year. We both struggle in the heat a little and £18k on a new van is only 4 years foreign holidays after a little man maths.

Excellent! We've had our static for 18+ years now, and I'm not sure I'd want to tow a modern (aka HUGE) van with anything less than a big 4WD. I know they're fairly light, but even so .. ..
Must admit, I do miss the tourer sometimes, for exactly the reasons you describe.

Will it have one of those remote crontrol manourvering set ups? My old neighbour had one and it was always cool to see him manouvere it onto the drive like thunderbird 2!

It will have a motor mover. I am actually very good at reversing, but I won't be able to get it into the space in our yard without one as it is a meter longer than our current one and there isn't enough room to get the angle needed. Edit, this is what I am going to see tomorrow. www.autotrader.co.uk/caravan-details/202402277005126

Even I, a non-caravanner, think that looks very smart! I love the names caravans get - "Swift Challenger". Is it swift and what is it challenging? We used to see ones called Mauraders, which we always thought was pretty funny. Maybe caravan designers have a good sense of self-deprecating humour?

A non (mobile) caravanner here but looks smart!
I do enjoy the odd short break to static caravan sites - simple, cheap fun in nice parts of the country. With things having been crazy with work and personal for the last few years these quick trips have actually been a great way to wind down (albeit briefly) without the hassle of a foreign holiday or short city-break abroad.
Though not something on my current radar I can see the appeal of a caravan also, if you have the space to store etc, for the reasons you've shared previously. I like spending time in my 'own' space, really enjoy the countryside / outdoors and plan to get a dog in my life again sometime in the next year or two so can see how this fits into your lifestyle well.
Hope it works out

Deal done, it was, as the man told me, absolutely mint and it is the perfect layout for us.
Back home - the Range Rover is a great car for effortless mile munching.

Not really worth it - I'm trying to sell it privately as it's worth quite a bit more than trade. It's worth about £4k and trade is £2k to £2.5k.
I'll give it a month and if it doesn't go it can have an eBay auction.

Nice - Tara’s cousin has/had the same model, but the wood is a standard finish inside .
I say has/had, as they had it up for sale last year and not sure if they did end up selling it.
