My boss has a Tesla3 and the car interior was reporting 47 deg C on the app !
It's supposedly still over 30 deg C outside at home now (9:00pm) and, yes, it feels hot even in the shade outside. Reminds me of my trip to Washington DC in May 2018......

Amazingly the country hasn’t collapsed…..! It’s been hot, yes, but hasn’t felt ridiculously so because we’ve been acclimatising and the humidity isn’t too bad (35c in somewhere like Singapore is much less bearable than the 38c it was here today). It’s forecast to be 40c at home tomorrow so will be even hotter.
The highest temperature I’ve seen is 118f / 48c at the edge of Death Valley in 2012, breathing in was uncomfortable.
We’ve been fine. I was in the office for most of the day, then pre-cooled the car for 20mins before setting off for Chester and driving on nice quiet motorways sitting on a cooled seat, with the aircon gently blowing.
All good at home as well. I decided to buy a second aircon unit (Delonghi EX100) last week, moving the one from our bedroom up to the top floor into the youngest sons bedroom, as that’s by far the hottest room in the house. Apparently neither unit has struggled at all, they have been running all day but the compressor hasn’t been on continuously and no issues holding 24c, which is their default in the ‘real feel’ setting which manages humidity as well as temperature.
One of the best things we’ve ever bought for the house, it might only get c10 days use a year, but it still feels like great value, especially today.

Tell me about it -I’ve just got back from playing squash (which was also had air con), and I’m sat on the bed with the air con unit next to me, it’s a must in this heat . We’ve even moved Olivia into our room in a travel cot as her room was 33*c earlier . I think I’ve said it before but our next house will have fixed air con .

I’ve looked at fixed units a few times, but haven’t gone for it because the portable unit works so well for a lot less money. I’ll look again if/when one of our units dies.
They are a lot quieter and presumably more efficient, but the last time I got a price for the unit we would need for our bedroom, it was over £2,500 installed, so 3 times the portable unit. It’s the installation costs that are high, the units themselves aren’t too bad.

We have a Delonghi Pinguino bought last year on your recommendation. We would quite literally be toasted without it. It’s still 32 degrees in the bedrooms on the top floor of the house at present, but 15-20 mins of the Pinguino will get it down to a far more bearable 23/24.

I spent most the day at the office and the ladies in finance (all of a certain age) had the AC on so low I was regretting not bringing a jumper!
At home it's been OK but still too hot for me upstairs so I'm kipping on the sofa tonight.
I'm working down in Brighton tomorrow so hopefully it will be a little cooler on the south coast.

Ours is on the highest setting and lowest temp , and it’s still 23* in here right now . I don’t have the qualification to fit fixed air con, but it might be worth a look in the future . I noticed most portable ones on AO, currys etc are understandably out of stock

We're close enough to the coast here to take the edge off, but both the local independent weather station and my makeshift thermometer under a tree peaked at 35.4C - an all time record for the weather station, which has been broadcasting since 2006.
When the current UK record was set on 25 July 2019, the temperature here was in the high 33s.
By shutting all the windows - curtains as well upstairs - and opening the loft hatch and velux skylight, I managed to keep the inside temperature to 28C upstairs. Not too uncomfortable, and it's coming down nicely now.
It's going to rise incredibly quickly in the morning though - 22C here by 6am and 30C by 10am. Never seen anything like it in the UK.

No idea how hot it is here but, not nice. The beasties had water topped up four times last night so no idea how much tonight, or tomorrow night. No air con either but it is what it is. My 48 hour deoderant fell short after six hours, doubtless it does not cover these temps.
Just been outside and there is a pleasant breeze, seriously tempted to just plonk myself on the grass later.

I don’t like AC, I’ll use it to drop the temp in a room by a few degrees but can’t sleep with it on. We’re just back from Crete and didn’t use it, just turned off the lights and opened the windows. We got home last night and just slept with the windows open as usual.

A fabric window seal kit is well worth getting if you have a PAC. We took ours upstairs last week when Max’s bedroom was 29.5 and it took ages to get down to 24c so I thought I’d give a window kit a try. The first surprise was how much air there was trying to get back into the room, the fabric was being pushed right back and the second was how quickly the temperature in the room came down, so it must be using a lot less electricity. A really good buy imo for £20-25 on Amazon, the only downside is Velcro on the window but it’s not really noticeable in his room.

Well, we went away for a wedding over the weekend and returned yesterday. Not often to return from SK in July and for it to be hotter when we landed at 9pm than when we left Vienna!
As to all this air travel disruption….. none. Looking at the BA scheduler if you are flying this summer just avoid the weekend and midday flights as they’re the ones getting canned. We flew Thursday evening and returned Monday evening. No luggage issues or long wait at T5 immigration either. The only stress was traffic due to a particularly nasty looking accident on the M1 in Hungary, where it looked like something had fallen off a truck and annihilated the driver’s section of a Sprinter van behind it. I can’t imagine the driver survived. I pointed out to W2.1 that it wouldn’t have mattered if we’d missed the flight as we were still alive to miss it 😢

We got home last night and just slept with the windows open as usual. Did that on our first night in Corfu almost 30 years ago, and got stung to buggery by the mozzies despite the net curtains! My wife counted the bites - something over 60, though I can't remember the exact number. Made for a fun first few days.

What's odd is, it is either totally still and roasting or there is a gentle breeze and the bloody breeze is hot!
My 3 dogs just cannot get comfy poor things, they are just flaked.

The size of the moths is enough to put me off opening the window. I'm in the office today in shorts and T-short enjoying the cool temps with the air con flowing and go outside every hour to remind me its 40degrees. Think a pint at lunch in a beer garden somewhere will be on the cards. Great time of year. We were sat in the garden last night till 10. Had a bbq and enjoyed a bottle of chilled Red wine ( wine buffs don't hate me)

Waking in the early hours with a gentle breeze blowing through the room is one of life's great pleasures and something you can't get from an artificially created atmosphere.

Damn hot again today. It’s 37 outside already and have moved the Pinguino, bought to just keep our bedroom cool and therefore not the biggest model, onto the first floor (galleried) as it is better to position these things high in a space. It’s just about managing to keep the ground and first floor at 28. It’s 32 up on the second floor even with all the curtains and blinds shut, so instead of my usual perch in the spare room, I am working from the study on the mezzanine and my wife has retreated downstairs to the dining table.

We've opened the windows and spent the last few days on the beach (well the family have - I popped down at lunch time and after work - stayed till around 9pm) - this weather is a rare treat these days so going to make the most of it and sure as hell not going to moan about it - if only it was 76 and would last for 3 months.

Lasted for a good while in 2020 too, though perhaps not quite 3 months; I recall many of my flying club members bemoaning the fact we weren't allowed to fly - or even drive to the field at all!

This is a shit heatwave Just been out and checked the temp according to the Micra and its 28. Not sure how the car records it as it's been sitting in the sun for hours but assume it reads it in the shade somewhere under the front bumper. The BMW usually reckons its a couple of degrees colder. For most of the morning its been cloudy and a bit dull. We've even had a few spots of rain.
