I see that Wales have now passed legislation to make all the current 30mph limits, 20mph limits including arterial routes. The Scottish Government in their infinite wisdom intend to do the same from 2025.
How exactly do these people think the country is going to operate efficiently when traffic is going to be moving more slowly than the cyclists. 20mph limits have their place at schools etc but to require it on every arterial road through towns and cities that used to be a 30mph limit, they must be off their heads.
I can see a large demand for by-passes which won't please the greens or the local businesses. Politics and Politicians are meant to do what is best for the majority of the people but I can't see this being popular with the majority.

We'll soon be back to having a man with a red flag walking in front of us. We must be the laughing stock of the First World; as Boris has so amply shown us in the recent past, politicians really are not capable of running the country

It's all very well bringing this legislation in but the majority of drivers (especially those who do 40 everywhere) clearly understand that most of the time these limits aren't policed.

Certain people in positions of authority (egged on by the eco-loon fraternity) would really like to uninvent the motor car, or ban them. But they can't get away with that. So, dressed up as safety / eco / blah blah they do what they usually do in these situations. Make something inconvenient and expensive, hoping that will do the trick.

To think when I started working in the 90’s, there would be forklifts literally racing each other inside and beeping as they drove to let people know they were there!

The Welsh First Minister and his government really are daft at times (well quite a lot of times) - there was a woman on the radio stating that trials had shown that 20mph speed limits increased the number of collisions between chidden and moving cars (but presumably reduced injuries) - can't find anything online about such results though.

You wouldn't say that if you'd driven round some parts of London. The 20mph sections are some of the most stressful roads to drive on. It's a constant battle for your attention from the speedo, possible speed cameras and other road users who are often rather angry at you driving at anything less than 35 all whilst keeping an eye on pedestrians and cyclists running red lights! Bloody nightmare

I have a major international engineering consultant client that does not allow its staff to travel by car. So staff have additional travel time to get to a station near home, then additional travel time and cost to get to site offices. Then need taxis to get to hotels (current site I am working on is in no man’s land); etc etc.
As an engineering firm they plan, design and lead road building projects across the globe. Fucking idiocy doesn’t cover it.

If they have to reduce the limit, why not make it 25mph. I was in Glasgow city centre this morning and there are 20mph limits which I tried to keep to. Unfortunately my car couldn't cope with 20mph, continuously hunting between 3rd and 4th. At 25mph it sat comfortably in 4th whilst I was passed by just about every other form of motorised transport!
I will stay away from Wales and move out of Scotland in 2025!
