My bag never got delivered after I flew into Zurich on the 30/6 so, not having any plans for the weekend, I called them and told them I’d collect it today. it meant a drive from Grenoble to Zurich and then I decided I’d pop into Germany for food before driving back. Total distance was 850km and almost 10 hours of driving between 10am and 11pm. I’ve done long drives in the US but I think this might be my longest so far in a day. A Seat Arona is not the most exciting car for this but it did a fine job of it, however it didn’t help that I kept lusting after the many German wagons that were making progress!

Ive done Consett to Swanage and back in a day when I collected the Series 3 on the back of a trailer attached to my Defender 90. That was hard work. 730 miles or so in about 15 hours straight with fuel and rest stops.
Previous to that would be Darlington to Orleans south of Paris using the tunnel. About 600 miles in 12 hours. That was in a slightly more comfortable Volvo V40 T4.

I drove non stop (apart from the ferry crossing) from Cheshire to just south of lake Annecy when I was 18 in my mums BRG MG Montego. The plan was to stop and sleep in the car when I was tired, but I felt OK to keep going. Helped by a stack of dance music cassettes!
I’ve just checked on Google maps and it’s a 830 mile / 1330km journey. I can’t remember how long it took but we made very good progress driving through the night.
Since then, the longest single journey has been Hythe to Lucerne via the Eurotunnel, c570 miles / 900km which was back in 2010 in the 520d, closely followed by Geneva to Calais on the return trip after going to a wedding in Perugia.

I suspect that the longest journey I've driven in a day was solo from Dundee to my home at the time in Wiltshire, from Google Maps about 450 miles. It took nearly 12 hours due to the dreaded Friday Midlands traffic plus stops for lunch, fuel and dinner (and comfort breaks). This was back in the 1990's in one of the Pool Rover 200 diesels

2100kms shared with my step dad. 23 hours. 2 hour stop for lunch. So 100kph average. Mojacar to Gevelsgerg. W124 300E. 1991 around February (the first allied attacks of Gulf war - because we woke up and watched it on TV before driving home.).
Not a drive I shall ever forget or emulate. W124s are very dear to my heart.

I don't really keep track of these things, but I think I did over 700km once, from Bangkok to the Laos border, in a Mazda CX-3 I think. Took about 12 hours or so.

720 miles (360 there and back) when I went to collect the Mini we bought for our daughter almost 13 years ago.
I used to sometimes do a day's work in London with a 240 mile drive to get there around 10 and the same home leaving the city at around 6pm - 7pm - glad not to do that any more!

I used to get up at 5am to drive the 260 miles from Newcastle to Aberdeen, do a day seeing clients in Westhill and surrounding area, and then drive home, arriving after 10 pm. It felt like quite a long day.

Longest for me was during the first lockdown when we were allowed to go back out and stay away from work but were not allowed to use public transport. I had a customer needing work doing in Darlington and Glasgow and I did that whole trip by car where normally it would be trains or planes. Coming back from Glasgow I broke the journey up with an overnight in Preston.

Longest would be either home to Ashford in Kent or Ashford to Prague.

Just worked it out. We left Butlins at Minehead (daughter was 11 months old and it was cheap!) called in on my wife's friend in Yeovil then to my sister in Bridgend for tea. Then headed for Heysham (right up through the middle of Wales!) and the night boat to the Isle of Man.
Google maps says that is 419 miles, give or take, and the two things I remember are;
1: I had a shockingly bad cold, my wife had an eye infection and couldn't drive, and
2: there were roadworks limiting the speed to 40mph for most of Wales. Only made the boat by the skin of our teeth.

Add on to that the average speed cameras (50 zone) and we were late. After planning the overtakes, I ended up passing the HGV on the 2 lane uphill part of the road at over 90mph. I was very thankful for my Irish licence plates then! I was the second last car onto the ferry.

As a 19 or 20 year old I drove from 20 miles north of Glasgow to Brittany in a VW Beetle with only fuel/food stops and a Channel ferry crossing to break the journey. I was in convoy with my Dad and the rest of the family in a VW 412. When he drove through a red light at about 4am somewhere in France I knew we were pushing the limits. No idea how far we drove but a quick Google suggests about 890 miles but it felt longer than that. On the return journey my Mum demanded that we stop somewhere overnight.

Sharing the driving with a friend, we left the ferry at 7am and arrived in London at about 2am.

In terms of driving alone, I’ve done Moscow to Helsinki on my own in a day before. That’s 1,100kms. Also done London to Milan in one go more than once - that’s 780 miles door to door.

I'd briefly (VERY briefly!) considered that as an option for one of our Milan trips. We can add on another 400 miles each way though, so probably for the best. Especially as the first one would have been in the Legacy, at 30-ish mpg IF I was lucky!!!

Linking back to your car thoughts… I got all the way from Dover to Milan via a night in Lucerne and a mountain pass with range to spare in my 520d. It was just over 700 miles. So slightly better than 30mpg!

We regularly do Lugano-London in a day as my sister in law lives there and it’s the perfect place to break the journey back from Fano. That’s just over 700 miles (the whole trip is 1,000 miles).
On the way down which effectively takes longer due to the time difference, we usually to do a first overnight stop somewhere between Reims and Colmar and then stop the second night either in Lugano or with my father in Milan. Although in the last two years we’ve skipped the France stop due to COVID.
