Not a fan of the dash and as you say the grills a bit in your face but otherwise pretty decent.

I like the rear and the front looks OK from some angles and awful from straight ahead. I bet it will still be a lovely place to sit in.
I think the second generation facelift cars were the best looking.

When a monstrously quick S8 comes along I will like it anyway. That would be ideal for today's Ronin.

I like the rear. It just gets hopelessly wrong in front of the A pillars. It looks like it comes off a car the next size up and that grille. OMG.

I think it looks alright. Bit derivative but the rear is nice.

It will be a magnificent way to cover big miles and from the inside looking out, everything will be just fine. As has been said though, the grill department has got a bit above itself recently and needs to be pulled back down to size.

Like a moist pussy, probably a lovely place to be inside but the front end is a complete disaster. It looks like the jutting jaw of the comedy Englishman, James Bottom-Tooth, in Family Guy.

So, I'm guessing VAG's photocopier has some flaw that is putting straight, horizontal lines across the front of every copy now (VW Arteon (?) is similarly afflicted along with their Q5 thing). Also there's something wrong with the line from the A pillar into the bonnet when you view the front 3/4, especially on the blue car.
Finally, remember the final iteration of the SAAB 9-5 where it got slated by the press for having a set of full width rear lights? Well, that design feature will now clearly be acceptable because Ze Chermans have adopted it.

I'm with you all in the grille, but the inevitable black pack should tone it down sufficiently with the right colour paint. I like it.

Well, that design feature will now clearly be acceptable because Ze Chermans have adopted it. S'only the brake light, though, isn't it? Seems to be a bigger, less subtle version of what has been fitted on the TT (and 911) for some years now. I'd imagine it's been done to appeal to the Septics, where they like that sort of thing...

The more I see of the wanky indicator the more I dislike it. When the car is braking it's harder to pick up on the indicator too.

I don't like those indicators either. I really cannot see what the point is?

Non driving review. Looks to be the sort of car where you want to be in the back seat!

I'm not a huge fan of the current VAG straight lines thing, or the desire to make all the cars look much the same. I prefer much older Passats to the current shape, for example...

Non driving review. Looks to be the sort of car where you want to be in the back seat! Actually, I've changed my mind about the back having seen that. OK from the bumper upwards. But that horizontal silver line that runs across the bottom of the bumper to match the one at light level, plus the lower lights and black trim too look really out of place. Makes the car look bottom heavy - like a dodgem car.

A Cadillac badge wouldn't look out of place on the back of that. The 1995 era Seville could easily be imagined tuning into that.

I refer you all again to one of the criticisms the Alfa 75 received 30 years ago - too many horizontal lines. It had about 1/10th of that.
However, look at the back of something like an X4 (hard to do I know...). It's also a mess of random lines and different coloured bits of trim. And that's before you get higher up, to its big arse.

I really don't like the Germans overuse of chrome across the front and back, but ticking the black pack (or similar) can help.

I really don't like the Germans overuse of chrome across the front and back, but ticking the black pack (or similar) can help. It's like they've gone full circle and started designing again for the 1950's American market... big features, lots of chrome, chintz and in-yer-face styling. Maybe as that is what the Chinese seem to like (subtlety being lost on them) that is what we are going to be as global styling until the Chinese leave 1950 and reach the 21st century.

Yes, but you'd think that they could tone down the amount of chrome used for European models. It's not difficult or expensive to implement

No but 'bling' still seems to be popular over here and, dare I say this, things like Audi and Merc are still seen by a lot of people as being significantly better/more expensive than the more traditional volume marques so I think some of the people who buy these will be doing it to impress their neighbours/friends as much as anything else - even though the cars are now often cheaper to acquire on a lease than something like a Ford.
The cars are more 'in your face' than they used to be and that feels like a popular sentiment at the moment, led perhaps by the whole 'look at me' culture that has popped up, even amongst more mature people.
In addition I expect a lot of buyers may not even be aware that you can tone down the chrome, etc.

I don't like those indicators either. I really cannot see what the point is? Agree. I already know which way the driver wants to go by determining which side of the car the flashing indicator is on. Are people really so think they need it to actually point in the direction of travel. Pointless gimmick.

Interior Fragrance Atomiser? Useful for the flatulent chauffeur. Or his flatulent passengers.
