Due to the mess that is international travel these days, my latest foray into France involved a change of flight and then a change of pick up location for a car. Zurich airport, while full of bags everywhere (including mine still 3 days later) did have cars available and I ended up with a Seat Arona. My drive was about 4 1/2 hours to the hotel so I’m very familiar with it now. While it’s not a car I’ve ever paid attention to, as a small SUV it meets all my requirements for the 10 days I’ll have it. I’m guessing it’s Fiesta sized but I can fit my 6’1” frame in it easily enough. Cloth seats, flappy paddle autobox with 7 speeds and an engine that sounds like a rally car when it gets into the higher revs, and has a bit of go to it also. Auto lights and wipers were useful when I drove through a storm and they responded well to the changes in rain, although stayed on longer than I thought necessary when going through tunnels. The eco mode might need to be turned off as the engine cuts out too often- like when waiting at roundabouts when you are about to gun it. The tank is giving about 600km of range so I’ll interested to see what that actually is when I refill it.

The Arona, like the Captur, looks like any other small SUV when it's finished in single colour paint. It really needs the different roof colour to bring out the best in the shape

I think these are the dullest looking mini SUV, so bland to look at.

I think these are the dullest looking mini SUV, so bland to look at. Indeed. Block the nose out and it could be from a number of brands.

Wow. That really is car-as-white-goods. I guess it’s the same as the Škoda one the SiL has but looks somehow duller.
