Prompted by the discussion elsewhere, what’s the fastest you’ve ever driven or been driven?
For my part, I remember being taken out for a spin in a Bugatti EB110SS in France in long-ago 1993-ish, and we hit an indicated 280kph on a deserted stretch of road. That’s the fastest I’ve ever been in a car.
Fastest I’ve ever driven a car was an indicated 250kph in my uncle’s W140 Mercedes S500 on the autobahn, also back in 90s.
Fastest I’ve ever driven a car of my own was in the 156 GTA, again on the autobahn, en route to Moscow about 15yrs ago. My Garmin sat nav clocked my V-Max at 139mph - I have a screenshot somewhere to prove it. I remember the Alfa felt worryingly nervous at that speed, hence not pushing further to try to hit its claimed top speed of 150.

I am not prepared to divulge, other than I was a very silly and naughty boy and that a 4.0 V8 Jaguar Sovereign can really shift when you want it to...

An indicated 140mph in a Vauxhall Calibre, many yonks ago and not in the UK. Gives the game away a bit.

Driving - Over the years I've been fortunate enough to win or be taken to a few "experience" days on private tracks so I've got up to about 120 mph in an Audi RS4 and 911. Not sure what speed I got up to in the Gallardo, I was too interested in concentrating/listening to the instructor urging me on to go faster and not looking at the speedo. Many, many years back I briefly got to 140mph in a Granada Scorpio Cosworth V6 and it was completely stable at that speed.
Being driven - probably 100 mph with my dad driving on an unrestricted German autobahn when he wanted to see if the family car could get to 100 when we were on holiday (it was a fintail Merc 220S when there were only a handful of MB cars in the UK, mid 1960's)

160 mph in my old XF 5.0 V8 on the Autobahn on the way back from Munich.
175 mph in an F-Type SVR Coupe on the Gaydon test track.

Not too sure to be honest.
My GT4 could hit circa 140mph round Silverstone. I've been around 150-160 on the Autobahn on that short stretch before the Ring in my old 993. With someone else, again, not too sure, I got a ride in a 997 Manthey GT2 on the ring and I have no idea as I was too busy crapping myself but would think it was at least 170MPH. I was on a corporate day at Silverstone and a Pro took me around the circuit for 5 laps in a 991 Supercup car which would have been up around 160MPH.

Hmm. Car-wise, me driving, was probably the WRX Impreza 320 (new shape) I had as a loan car one day about 10-11 years ago. That thing was crazy fast, to the point I was scared to look at the speedo! On a slightly more sedate note, my Legacy recorded a touch under 120mph a couple of times (on a private road, of course).
As for being driven, the fastest I've ever felt I was going was in a Jensen Interceptor round the lanes near the Lizard back in 1979. My grandad (dad's dad) had just died, and the owner of the hotel we were staying in felt a bit sorry for me being left alone with my mum and sister, so took me for a "little spin" to Truro where he had some business to see to. Cracking day that was!!
On the bikes, it's a different story. I dare say Jeff's steed's are much quicker than the best of mine, but 155mph two-up on the Mountain Mile was something of a milestone for me. Totally legal, the bike felt really stable and pretty planted over the whole mountain, but that short section just seemed to bring everything together at the right time. Lovely stuff! I've seen quicker on the speedo, but only the quickest of glances letting me know I was in the realm of silliness.

Bike: indicated 155mph on a road not far from my house that I am now in........ Chased by an unmarked car at 140mph on the same road. I don't reckon I could do it now: too old to hang on! All high speed on a big bike on an open three lane road feels like you could get off and walk. Bikes are about going round corners.
Car: The Gorilla (Alpina B5 BiT) indicated 275kph (171.9mph) on the Autobahn 5 (looking at the map). Utterly and totally unflustered.

I think I did an estimated 230 or 240km/h in an Audi R8 down the Sepang F1 circuit. Think that's probably the fastest I've ever went.

On the road - Driven - I can't remember what speed I finally achieved but in a 1982 Opel saloon hire car on the autobahn it felt super-sonic. Being driven - probably with my dad in his XJ12 when he "decided to see what it could do". Off the road - Driven - about 120mph on Gaydon's banked circuit. I think it was in a XJ6. Being driven - the 150-ish on the same banked circuit with a test driver. I was in the back seats and the speedo was rather blurred....

Driven - an indicated 150 mph in the M3 saloon about a year after I first got it. The car still had plenty to give.
I've had a few cracking passenger rides on track over the years - ones with Tim Harvey and Paul O'Neill particularly spring to mind - but the top speeds would have been in the 130s probably.

It's a toss up between:
Off the clock in my 205 GTi - the speedo went up to 140 and it was wound right round touching the stop before 0 - for a very brief moment on a straight road somewhere back in 2001.
Indicated 135 in a Diablo SV on an airfield in Peterborough.

170mph in a 997 turbo on the millbrook mile straight is the fastest I have driven.I have been driven 4 up in a mercedes 560sel at 155mph and I would like to say it was on an autobahn but there was a nutter driving it and it was on the m62 and i am still shaking from it 30 years later.

In 1989 I won the use of a Sierra Saphire Cosworth for the weekend in an auto car competition - had I been over 30 at the time I could have chosen a 911 - but anyway, we decide to use the Cosworth to visit my brother in law - of course he wanted to go out in it and I took it up to an indicated 145 on the M4 - soon backed - it’s quite scary coming up to cars doing normal speeds at a closing speed of over 70mph even when traffic is very light as it was at the time. I’ve owned a few faster cars since but never tried it again!

An indicated 140mph in a Noble M12 GTO at Bedford Autodrome. It was quite boosty and you had to pay attention when the turbos spooled up, but otherwise it was a wonderful and surprisingly unintimidating car to drive.

The most I've seen is 140 in an Alfa GT V6, a Fiat Coupe Turbo and an E39 M5. Hoping to take the M5 somewhere soon to see how hard it hits the limiter at 155.
