Just arrived in Geneva and my car this week is a Qasquai. I had one in the states on more than one occasion so I’ll keep my impressions brief. This one is nicer than those I had over there. Seems better built, slightly higher quality, and the engine/gearbox is way better than the cvt I had in California.
So there’s a downside.
A big one.
It has the great privilege of being the first car I got caught speeding in for over 20 years. Zone dropped from 110 to 90 in France and I was doing 106. I got flashed, and my Swiss registered car got caught. The annoying thing is that I was only in France for 20 mins when it happened.
Ah well.

^ Is this the latest 2022 Qashqai with the new slim front and rear lights? I quite like the look of it, but no diesel engines on offer plus it does appear to be somewhat huge for a 5-seater, and pricey

I’m not sure but it looks newer than the last model I drove about a year ago. This one is white and I actually think the colour suits it.

I don’t think our new Qashqai is huge, if anything it feels smaller than the old model due to its more car like dynamics.

^ Not my fault that I still prefer the most practical fuel for a large heavy vehicle that doesn't need to be rapidly accelerated very often

Having looked around I reckon the petrol is not too far off these days, the efficiency must be stratospheric compared to those I grew up with. Perhaps our age counts against us in this respect.
I find myself looking towards Dacia these days as even Skoda have gained credibility (Through much effort) and value has climbed accordingly with very fine build standards. Petrol motors are very fine in the kind of motor used every day as work horses or we would have the media all over it.
Chris, have you driven the petrol offerings? I have not for bloody ages so I suppose scrap wot I rote and drive some for an extended test perhaps?

Our petrol Mini Cooper will do 45 mpg on the daily school run and short-ish commute and over 50 mpg on a run. Driving carefully it will do over 60 mpg.
The three cylinder engine pulls well from low revs and it is very easy to drive. I agree that a large turbo diesel is well suited to something like my Benz, but for a more 'normal' car I would choose petrol every time.
