So this weeks car is a Peugeot 508.
so far, I’ve driven about 130km in it and first impressions are as follows.
I like the look of it, but I’ve tended to like the look of Peugeots for a long time so that’s not news.
It’s comfortable and has a petrol engine that’s mated to an automatic gearbox. The gearbox has at least 7 speeds and can be a little reluctant to change up after you’ve gunned it a bit, hesitating to change for about 2-3 seconds after you back off.
Performance is ok and it’s only used about 1/8 of a tank so far which is quite impressive.
It took a bit of getting used to when I sat in it. CarPlay wouldn’t initially work but I figured it out.
There is cruise control but I haven’t used it, as it’s hidden behind the steering wheel and I can’t see any of the controls when I’m driving it.
Speaking of the steering wheel, it’s small and not round. This type of steering wheel works in an F1 car but not for me thanks. It’s not comfortable too hold for long periods of time.
The car has a few knocks on it and has 89,000km on the clock but there are no rattles or squeaks.
The drivers door has a wind noise whistle and despite me messing with the pillarless door windows, there’s no change in it.
It’s interesting driving it as it’s a direct comparison to my Mondeo. The Peugeot seems smaller, the boot (both cars are wagons) is smaller, the rear space is smaller and the roofline seems lower, meaning I’ve bumped my head more than once getting into the car.
All that said, it’s going to serve me well this week and I’m glad I got something Gallic for my trip.
