One of my dad's company Montegos had a factory-fit sunroof, so they weren't all installed by dealers

That must've been a fairly early one then? My E reg MG Maestro had a tilt and slide sunroof I think. I know my G red Montego GTI definitely did. It was a G reg and although there might have been factory sunroof options the sunroof on ours was a dealer fit option. Maybe the dealer themselves were the ones offering it as part of their accessory range rather than Austin having it as part of their official range. There's no way I'd let your average dealer 'service technician' have a go at my cars roof with a can opener!

My Mum had a BRG MG Montego with a (std iirc) tilt/slide glass sunroof.
There’s no way I’d have ever let a dealer cut a hole in the roof of my car either!

Those tilt and remove sunroofs were popular for a while - a couple of mates had them installed on their Alfas in the early 90s.
