For no better reason than that the car wasn’t very clean and tomorrow I have Autoglass coming to repair a nasty chip in the windscreen, I decided to have the car washed today. And then somehow that reminded me that I hadn’t actually applied anything remotely resembling polish to the car since last August after I’d had the various dents removed. So having an afternoon to myself and since it had clouded over, I set about the car with some Autoglym “Deep Shine”. And then having the bit between my teeth, I set about the steering wheel and seats with some leather wipes (always alarming to see how grubby the steering wheel was). I even found some metal polish and cleaned up the exhaust tips. I dare say it won’t be anywhere near up to the standards of the various expert car cleaners on here, but it does look rather better than before. So when did you last have what my wife terms “a car-licking session”?

The Kuga got done only a few weeks ago, just days before we had the sandstorm brown rain, the Fiesta is due to be done in the next few weeks. The Captur is overdue, may try to do it with the Fiesta over Easter.
I was going to do younger daughter's A1 over Easter or the following week-end depending on when she visits us. but obviously that's not going to happen, however I do hope to apply the "Beats" side stripes to the Polo when she is here - the Polo got done the day I collected it because I found so many tar spots on its lower body. The Volvo will get done if it's driveable and if elder daughter visits this month, and if I get time (so, a pretty low possibility)

Looking very smart.
I can’t remember the last time I cleaned my car! The local hand wash does such a decent job that I simply can’t find the motivation to do it myself.

Truck will get done properly in May when the cows go out. Autoglym HD wax over super resin, probably.
Looks lovely, BTW.

To be clear, I didn’t actually wash the car myself - I had it washed by the local Kosovans this morning. I just did the polishing afterwards once it had dried out in the sun.

I was up early for the F1 so after that I took the opportunity to clean the Mini whilst the family slept in. The white roof looked white enough, until I cleaned part of it!
Eva was cleaned thoroughly two weeks ago and will be again in a couple of weeks.

Not for years which is frustrating and I agree, yours does look bloody good after the tlc.
If I were in the market for one I would have to say I would go for yours, I know you look after them.

Yesterday - gave the Elgrand a good compound and waxing to remove 95% of all the little blemishes that most leave untouched - a very rewarding afternoon - looked tons better.
The Scirocco and Mini are done with hybrid ceramic which is great - an SiO2 wash makes them shine like they've been just polished for a fraction of the effort.

Yesterday. The Mini had its first wash in months. Autoglym Aqua Wax brought out the shine really well again.

My daughter was home for a flying overnight visit on Friday so I cleaned her car before she left on Saturday morning and then cleaned the other two afterwards followed by some quick detailer to make them really shine. I also cleaned and ceramic coated my summer wheels last weekend and fitted them yesterday.
My car will get a ceramic coating in the next few weeks when I can set aside enough time to do it.

I must admit I have been using these "dry" wash/waxes recently a - lot - where I live now I park under small trees and get plenty of poo and dust on the car. I see no ill effects at all from just doing this rather than "wet" washes, even when the cars are quite dirty.
I did also properly wax the Jag -with the newer style of AG Super Resin (much better than the old one in terms of removing it more like Meguiars - ie easily) and it looked great until I drove it right across to Eastern Germany whereupon it looked a bit sad again, until it was dry "washed" again. I'm going to get through a lot of this dry wash!!
I partly keep both cars so detailed now to make the poo easier to remove... Whichever car I bring here tends to suffer!! The other is left at Tina's and fares better.

I cleaned Eva inside and out today, including dash wipes, leather wipes, glass cleaner etc. but one question:
She’s coated in that Teflon stuff so looks spotless with a shampoo and dried with chamois (and then a micro cloth later in the day.) I oo-ed and err-ed about polishing as well so my question is do I need to polish the slippery coating?

^ Good question and I'd love to know the "proper" answer. The Fiesta got cleaned and polished to within an inch of its life today, apart from the wheels which deserve a session of their own. Maybe I'll get round to taking them off to clean the inside surfaces?
The Kuga got its bonnet and tailgate cleaned and polished too but lack of time due to other needs meant I couldn't do the whole car - it looks a bit odd now as the roof is covered in dust/pollen and the sides are a bit grimy. Blame the NHS and local pharmacies - I spend hours tracking down a prescription for another family member, sent electronically to a pharmacy whose computer system crashed.....
The Kuga had "lifetime" coating applied to its paintwork when new but TBH it's crap and I could tell from the way that water didn't bead properly on the roof and bonnet a few years back that it appeared to have worn off, hence it now gets an annual polish.

That's bloody shiny! Can't remember the last time I washed mine, half the lacquer fell off it and I lost enthusiasm after that

I oo-ed and err-ed about polishing as well so my question is do I need to polish the slippery coating? You can wax on top of a sealant if you wish, but I wouldn't use a polish as such. Something like AG HD wax or a spray and wipe off wax would be ideal.

I oo-ed and err-ed about polishing as well so my question is do I need to polish the slippery coating? No, not unless you want to remove it or shorten it's life. You should just top it up with a maintenance sealant or wax if you feel you have to add to the surface.

I meant polish with wax (apologies for lack of clarity).
Thanks for advice. Interestingly I looked up caring for ceramic coated cars this morning and noted that regardless of being a desperately lax car cleaner whenever I do do it I appear to be doing it correctly.

I gave the Golf a spring clean this morning. Wash, wax and Gyeon Wetcoat plus a full interior clean including all the leather. Sparking! (Apart from the discs…)

The Scirocco still looks really smarty! Very shiny indeed. It's a design that has aged really well - if it was launched today I still think it would look fresh. But of course if launched now it would have tiny headlamps and a design mess at the front to fill in the extra space.

One of the reasons I never replaced it (aside from the fact cars are silly priced nowadays). The Elgrand looks a lot younger than its 18 years too.

I should probably have my forum membership revoked for this admission but this is actually the first time I have washed the Macan myself by hand since getting it back in January! It is looking very shiny as it had a full mop by Porsche West London not long ago after the Tequipment car cover debacle…

I'm not bothered about Porsches and certainly not keen on SUVs but I like that.
I see one to a similar spec sometimes near the office and its quite appealing too although it is a nice burgundy colour but with the same alloys.

Looks fantastic. Really like the wheels, I don't understand the appeal of overly complicated designs with multiple colours or finishes.
