The sun was shining and Spring had clearly sprung, so I rolled the Standard out of the garage, flushed the cooling system, replaced the leaking radiator hose, gave it a service (plugs, points, etc.) and went for a pleasant bumble around the lanes. 'Why not fire up the Alvis?' I thought. So I gave that a fettle and set off around the local villages. The journey back was not quite as planned... I think it is a fuel supply problem. Either blockages or possibly a dodgy petrol tap. That's tomorrow's activity sorted...

I stripped down cleaned the carburettor this morning, which did contain some crud, but it hasn't solved the problem. Looks like I am going to have to drain down the petrol tank and remove the tap.

Is the petrol contaminated, or is it definitely not getting through?
I had an interesting day yesterday too, involving looking at potential cars for younger daughter and being thrown the keys to a Clubman with a comment of "take it out for a drive and see what you think", good old-fashioned trust like how I remember from the 1980's. the gearchange was very notchy and obstructive into 1st and 2nd but apparently "all Minis are like that". I really wanted to like it, but no

But what did your daughter think? She'd rather have a convertible ! I also saw a very nice A3 convertible at Hawthorns (named after Mike), 2015 and 1.4, 1 owner, but it was a little out of her price range and I suspect it will be "difficult" to insure (expensive) plus with on-street parking and living in small rented accommodation, she won't really be able to look after a soft top. The car was due to be sold and collected yesterday but the intended purchaser didn't get time before they went away skiing...... so it's back up for sale. It's also grey which is on her list of "avoid if possible" colours. Mind you, when you take out those (white, silver, black, grey, brown), you're not left with much choice as most cars seem to come in such a bland array of colours

However the Countryman manual I had once was awful - but that was in every gear.
