It seems that the government has repaid (Finally) the refund for those tonka toys the Iranians did not take delivery of and the problem is resolved.
About time.
It seems the US veto on that has suddenly come to an end and I am certain the Ukrainian war has something to do with it.

Doesn't change the fact the Iranians are complete bastards to lock up a mother for something she didn't do. They are still holding more dual nationals as future bargaining chips. Pity we can't just pick up the Ayatolah and stick him on Anthrax island
for 5 years to see how he feels about it. When they have ceased their nuclear projects we will let him go!

I think Anthrax island is less of a risk now and he would only do a Rasputin on everyone.
Perhaps lock him in a cell with speakers constantly spewing out my sister's theories 24/7. I reckon even with prior exposure I would make no more than four hours.

Anthrax Island got detoxed in the 80s. I thought Liz Truss' choice of phrase was shite - 2we've established a method to repay the money to Iran". Most of us manage that by asking for bank details and making a BACS transfer - if it's a business account then you'll get charged 70 pence if it's a same-day transaction otherwise it's free.* Muppet! * Yes, yes I know it wasn't that simple. It's good that she's home. I heard an R4 presenter ask somebody what the "take-away" was from the Radcliffe episode. Cue some long answer about rights etc etc.
My response would have been, "Simples. Don't visit hell-hole countries run by terrorists if you want to avoid being locked up on spurious grounds and held hostage".

Anyway how stupid were the Iranians back in the '70s to pay all that money up front  I think the issue is that Iran is under sanctions and we would have broken those sanctions (and caused some International upset) by paying the money directly. So we have just paid it to someone else who has paid it to Iran but that is somehow OK!! Doesn't stop the Iranians being wrong, taking innocent hostages in the first place: this is the kind of State sponsored terrorism that makes me very very angry - very similar to bombing a building you know is full of women and children and then saying we don't do that kind of thing. Lying bastards who deserve the same treatment as a rabid dog. Apologies but I think it is the great misuse of power that just touches a very raw nerve with me. |

I'm sure everyone was confident of the deal. Personally, I would have just built the 1500 Chieftans that the Iranians wanted and delivered the 50 year old out of date tanks. |
