The cars are out for their first showing on the track and Lando Norris has just gone and posted the fastest time, closely followed by the two red cars.
Russell and Hamilton in 4th and 5th and Max well down the order.
Can we take anything from this first day's testing or do we have a bunch of sandbaggers?

Nothing doing for any of them. The tyres are the middle compounds, teams will be running to assess reliability and to check with drivers what the ground effects has done for driveability.
Lando will be a contender though.

I’m going to add that moto3 champion Pedro Acosta stepped up to Moto2 and in this week’s testing shattered the Portimao lap record. Something about “the real deal” covers this.

Lando will be a contender though. Agree. Way too early to get a proper handle on who is the fastest. What I hope for this year is that it isn't just a title fight between Merc and RB but that we see Ferrari and McLaren being properly in the mix too. They've got the driver talent and these cars are meant to mean closer racing so we could genuinely be about to see a 3 or even 4 way title fight for a large portion of the season. There is of course a chance that one team could do a Brawn and find their car design gives them a massive edge that leave the rest of the pack in their wake but hopefully these new regs make that much less likely than before.

Something of an up and coming rider for the future, this season may be a nit much but he is looking to do a Hamilton and frighten a few people. Surprising if he does not win at least one or two.

All I can tell so far is the Aston is the best looking and the Red Bull the most adventurous design
