Marvin Lee Aday, otherwise known as Meat Loaf has died aged 74.
The first artist that I have living memory of as my dad always played Bat out of Hell in the car.
Was lucky enough to see him live at the Newcastle Arena some years ago. Great performer.

I find it somewhat disturbing that there have been lots of stars dying over the past few months, who were in their 70's. As every year goes by, that isn't really that far away. In fact my 70's are probably as close as the number of years I have been a member of this/Autocar forum (16/17?)!
I have Bat out of Hell on a playlist I play in the car and it was blasting out just before Christmas along with a whole load of other stuff I haven't heard in a long time.

I was surprised to hear of his death on the radio this morning.
Whenever I hear Bat out of Hell it reminds me of driving up to Dundee on a sunny Friday evening with a bunch of mates in my late teen years heading to the nightclubs. That song always came on at some point on the drive.

I thought he was long dead, if I’m honest. My sister bought Bat out of Hell when it came out and I was fairly nonplussed by the operatic nature of the entire album. I don’t like Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody much for the same reason. Both were about when singles were of the three minute hero variety so I have no massively fond memories of Meatloaf as part of my yoof.

I had the album, still do somewhere but it did not play a huge part in my life. The ELO album of the same style (El Dorado by memory) did however, I had it on blue vinyl until it got nicked with my other albums.

Saw him live at the Hammersmith Odeon, London in 1977. Since then, I've never really followed him or even heard that much about him. But as John says, as one's seventies draw nearer it's not a nice feeling to see people go in their seventies!

My wife and her friends were big fans in the 80s but Bat Out of Hell is not an album I’ve ever owned, or really listened to. Obviously I’ve heard the stand out tracks frequently over the years and appreciate the music.
He seemed like a decent bloke and a big fan of Hartlepool United so all credit to him.

I recall my brother had the Bat out of He'll album and I know what you mean about being operatic but it was pretty iconic. I didn't listen to his music very often so my best memory of him is probably from Fight Club - also an utterly iconic film.

Was he in Fight Club?
People don’t talk about that.

I heard this on the radio in the van on the way to Mountune on Friday. I had been listening to Spotify but switched to R2 for Popmaster. Suffice to say that straight after Popmaster, Spotify was back on playing some Loaf tunes.
Factoid: His son in law is one fo the guitarists in Thrash legends Anthrax.
