I think I've got the name right. Sadly it was just a passenger ride but a friend has recently bought one of these - a 6 month old ex-demo with 3k miles. It's the first time I've been in a 911 since the 1980s (a 4 speed turbo that the owner subsequently put in a ditch backwards....) so I wasn't really sure what to expect. There was a short trip into the local town for me to collect the 430 then a shortish circular trip from the house. I was immediately impressed by the way it handled the single track backroad down from my house - the 1st impression was that the ride was better than the 430 despite that being on winter tyres and that feeling remained. Onto the main road and once the car was pointing straight the driver clearly floored the throttle, the accelaration was pretty forceful (i night've bashed my head on the headrest) and I felt slightly queasy for a moment. Mind you that might've been a result of the previous nights curry and several beers.... There was clearly no wheelspin despite the temperature being 2 degrees and the road moist. The engine noise was pretty decent too - this car has the switchable sports exhaust. The main roads round me are generally recently resurfaced and the car was quiet but there was noticeable tyre noise on the older/rougher parts. I'm not sure what kit the car has although I presume it has been specced up as a demo car but I can't remember if there is a row of haptic buttons either side of the gearlever? I hope so otherwise those shiny bits of plastic are a bit of a letdown. My friend's wife was most happy with the double red stitching on the interior. Apparently that's £2k worth of option. Overall I was very impressed - it didn't really feel much slower than the Nissan GT-R I was in a few years ago - and I wouldn't be upset to have one but there's the small matter of £123k I'm not a particular Porsche fan and it really doesn't feel like good value at that price given what else you could buy (it didn't even have folding mirrors!)

I'd be very happy with one, especially with red stitching as it would remind me of our Boxster, which is often missed.
We don't know the spec, but it sounds like that he has paid above list, as that's about what I'd get to speccing one if I wasn't being too careful. A standard 4S has a list price of £105k, but it is easy to get carried away with the options list.
I think I'd either go for a (new) well specced Carrera (£106-108k) or a GTS (£127-131k).

Agreed it’s a lot of money, but what else would you buy for similar cash? It offers a level of usability and practicality that no other sports car can get close to - the 2+2 cabin and fact you can use it everyday whilst still being as good as sports cars get.

I'm not sure I'd call it practical, they stayed at our house for 1 night and the front boot plus back seats were full, albeit they had walking gear in there as well as a change of clothes. There's more space in a Nissan GT-R for example. If I had that money I'd struggle to spend it all on one car but as I said I'm not really a Porsche person so a 911 wouldn't be on my list anyway. I was imprseed by the refinement alongside the impressive performance though.

As always, the best thing to do is try something for yourself. I'm not going to though as it could turn out expensive and it's not the right time...although the lead time must be 18-24 months right now.

I’ve had all sorts in a 911 - my road bike, a Christmas tree (admittedly that needed the sunroof open), camping gear for a long weekend and, most memorably, 3 air hostesses! I was always happy with refinement, but I see Harry Metcalfe giving the 992 a hard time on that score. Agree that it feels very expensive now.

It’s ridiculously refined (I assume we are talking 992 model ) ,the ride quality is excellent .The only issue is the traditional 911 weakness of tyre roar . If anything it rides too well giving me a sense of disconnection from the road that I don’t like . The regular 992 models are to me now more GT than sports car. From what I am reading all 911 2022 U.K. allocation is taken up for 2022 ,anyone wanting a turbo model is now being quoted 2024 delivery .

It's definitely more refined than a 430d running on Bridgestone runflats.... There was less road noise and the less harshness over bumps.
