It would be harsh to say I had a love/hate/love relationship with this car, more love/slightly underwhelmed/love - but since around the service, I've been loving it again for sure. It's definitely a bit peppier for having all the coils/HT leads/plugs changed, and now I have driven it more with the hood up, the noise it makes is incredible - very loud, and with real depth - it basically has a range of notes that can be played purely on throttle position, like the GTA but more so and much louder. People tell me its much louder than the XFR (itself no shrinking violet) so I think a lot of the sound must just be lost to the driver with the hood down, which seems odd, but true.
It is quite rapid, but needs 4k revs to be so, which too some getting used to after the Jags - and it never has the same shock appeal of being able to mash the pedal in any gear and feel squashed in your seat. And it has quite extraordinary grip, on warm dry tarmac it feels too grippy if anything, and that's on ancient tech Bridgestone RE050 at the back, Pilot Sport 2 (!) at the front. So in some ways it is more fun to drive now the roads are damp and cool, when it still has incredible grip - I don't think I have lost the back in it once so far, certainly no power oversteer, and those things happen every few trips in the XFR in some form.
It's been pretty dependable too, everything works, despite far less use than the XFR the battery always has more juice in it, and I've done some longer trips and can certainly see something like the Scotland trip (which was scuppered by other commitments) happening in the spring.
So - time to drive it off for a coffee - its main role has been to reinstall the will to live in me at times endlessly working from home by just waking me up, which it does very nicely! To anyone else considering a second - fun - car out of pure boredom in these times, I would say: go for it!
