Every time you think BMW have hit peak they pull something else out of the bag. It's saying something when given the choice between that and the Honqi that Autocar reviewed the other day, I'd take the Honqi. Then at least with the price difference I could afford to buy a decent looking second car.

Won't Citroen have something to say about them using that name. - might add that their XM looked a lot better too!

Ghastly to us but some focus group knows there is a market of avid ugly-tank lovers out there. Perhaps the design team have all had Covid and lost their sense of taste.

I think it is fair to say that the target market for BMW's new found ugliness is not the average European or even US buyer. BMW no longer design cars with us in mind.

Ugly, overpriced, overpowered, overspecced.
They’ll sell a load of them.
I don’t see the need for it to be honest. Why anyone needs that much power in an SUV for anything other than bragging rights is beyond me. The standard models have more than enough torque/power for 99% of the population and those that buy this won’t know how to use it.

Great interior and I wouldn't hate it quite so much if it had a Korean badge on the nose but for BMW to dismiss their heritage so happily seems a shame.

The BMW designer's comments smack a bit of arrogance. It's one thing being prepared to be a bit more adventurous with design and it's another to pen something that looks downright ugly. I agree that not everyone will like every design but I have yet to speak to anyone who thinks the big new grills are attractive: I had a meeting this morning with a client who had the previous M3 and sold it 2 years ago because he needed to do 30K miles a year for a couple of years to get a new office up and running. He is now back down to less than 10K a year and is looking to buy something interesting again but he won't even consider the new M3 because he finds it far too ugly.

Wow. That's just a complete fucking mess inside and out.
I can see a hint of Skoda Kodiak above the back wheels but there's certainly nothing in any of it that says BMW.

The best description I could give the big grilles was "attention grabbing". The first time I saw the new 4 Series on the roads in the flesh I literally stopped in my tracks, in a kinda 'WTF' sorta way.

Yes you do, they're called Customer Clinics and the car industry has been using them for decades.
