Never been to one before, ever.
But got inspired by a colleague who, being a big fan of the book it turns out, went to see Dune earlier this week and raved about the cinematography. He felt it was an IMAX must, so as I have a weekend to myself and it's definitely not likely to be my wife's kind of film, on a whim I've booked a ticket to see it at the IMAX on Sunday afternoon.
Quite thrilled really, as I am very curious to go to an IMAX. And no, I haven't read the book but I like a bit of sci-fi.
Anyone seen this film yet? I gather from the reviews that the plot is a little slow but that the visuals are eye-popping.

Not been for a while for obvious reasons, but we used to visit the IMAX on a fairly regular basis with The Gallery which makes it a much more sociable evening. It’s not just the picture / screen size with IMAX, the sound is even better too.
Not seen Dune, but enjoy!

Yes this will be my first cinema visit for a while. My wife isn't the most relaxed person on earth when it comes to Covid, so it can be pretty hard work to persuade her into anywhere enclosed and full of people.

Sara and I saw Avatar in the Birmingham IMAX and the experience is head an shoulders above an ordinary cinema, the sound they fit just brings everything to life, along with the definition it is brilliant. You will love it.

Yes quite impressive.
And I enjoyed the film. Visually very impressive and I didn’t find it particularly slow at all. Not perhaps attuned to today’s hyper-short attention spans, but fine by someone like me.

I've never been to an IMAX other than a school trip to Bradford many years ago. I want to go and see the new James abond at some point and fancy the IMAX experience.
Dune is a cracking film. I think it took 3 VHS tapes back in the day.

We'd both love to see the new Dune film, but like Mrs Racing, Mrs PG is not happy to go to crowded spaces and I guess I need to be careful too. So unless some great change in disease spread, looks like Dune, the Bond movie and maybe one or two others will have to wait.
I've never seen a feature film in IMAX, but way back in 1995 we saw a film about the Grand Canyon on a fore-runner of IMAX at the visitor centre there. I think the technology will have moved on massively since then.

We saw that one I think - do you mean the one shot from the microlight that flies off the edge of the canyon and then down the Colorado river?

The first IMAX experience I had was at the Kennedy Space Centre, must have been in the very early 90s. That was a tall screen (multiple screens) and the technology has certainly come on a long way since then, but it was fairly mind blowing at the time.

I did wear my mask all the way through, and it was mildly amusing that the man on my right took one look at me wearing one and put one too!

I do remember a hot air balloon being in some of the shots.

Yes the one we saw in 1995 had three huge, tall screens.
