If even Dan found the regular GT4 a bit hardcore for normal road use this will be absolutely mental maybe even unusable on the public highway. I dont doubt it's a great track weapon and a good way to make a fast buck if you can take advantage of being on the early waiting list but if I wanted to actually use my Cayman I'd stick to looking at a GTS.

Yep. Ignoring the investment angle, this car will be a PITA on the road for much of the time, brilliant for some of the time, and only really come into its own if you take it on a circuit. I also think it looks too shouty for my own tastes and it is PDK-only. So everyone else is welcome to them and I will keep my GTS

Yes, an even bigger step up from a GT4 than I expected, what a fantastic machine.
Hopefully it sounds exactly like the new GT3, which is that very rare thing of a post GPF engine that sounds great.

Impressive but if you can't buy one then what's the point. There will even be 2 levels of customer for those that can get an allocation. Those that are allowed to spec one with Weissach package and those that haven't ticked enough boxes to qualify for the best Spec.
Porsche are very odd that they sell a bargain of a car at £108K but have a massive over supply. Just charge people 200K and sell as many as you can at that price level. What's the point in letting the dealers and punters have the upside to all the flipping.
On paper its the best car you can probably buy right now.

On paper its the best car you can probably buy right now. It is likely that Porsche have allowed their engineers to make the Cayman what it could have been all along now that the end of the ICE is on the horizon. There are probably only a few countries in the world where the public roads are smooth enough to enjoy this car properly and the vast majority of these will no doubt sit in garages and come out to play on the track every now and again. I had some recent correspondence with the editor of Car magazine when they ran an article that the next 911 would be electric. I asked about the work Porsche is doing on finding an alternative fuel to allow ICE cars to continue and was told that the fuel is only intended for race/track purposes and to enable old cars/classics to still operate. Porsche's focus for future road cars is entirely electric.

Its also a little daft that the only customers who will be offered the car will already own a GT3 RS and possibly a GT2 and therefore probably won't appreciate a GT4 RS once its on track as it'll be slower then whats already in the garage. Give it 6 months and there will loads on the market for 200K

Porsche's focus for future road cars is entirely electric. We had Paddy Lowe in the Club recently, speaking in his role at Zero Petroleum. The initial approach for synthetic fuels will be for HGVs, plant, boats, aeroplanes and motorsport where batteries are not seen a viable solution (something about the battery equivalent to aviation fuel being 50 times the weight!) and indeed KLM flew a test flight recently using synthetic kerosene. As with all developmental stuff the idea is that the market will lead the way so if (as we have discussed here many times) there is no appetite, market or capability to fast-charge or swap batteries to align refuelling times with that of an ICE then the market will develop alternatives. It was also seen as a key issue regarding the grid capability in the very long term. I hope that synthetic fuel is developed for motorsport, not just because it will maintain the raw element of sound appeal but because history (which can never be ignored) has shown that motorsport development leads the way in road car development, meaning our children and grandchildren can enjoy the thrill of combustion.

I have no doubt that leccy cars accelerate brilliantly, its very impressive. But I can't picture noiseless motorsport, at all. I mean if I'm trackside hearing a Huracan GT3 with its big V10, its exciting - and anything less than that and you're being cheated.
