Not so much a big drive but taking the X5 north this weekend to Crater Lake in Oregon. It’ll be one of the last long drives I take it on before I sell it. Incidentally, I looked up the used prices and saw that the car has slightly increased in value in the 18 months I’ve owned it- probably by about $1500 which is great news for me- the lack of inventory here in the US is really starting to bite.
Will post pictures- there might be snow which would be great!

So I drove about 500 miles on Friday/Saturday to Crater a lake in Oregon. It’s stunning there, worth a visit but only for a few hours- it’s not a place you’d typically spend days at like Yosemite or Yellowstone. It was possibly my last longish drive in the car before I sell it and was a great send off. averaging 75-80mph for long stretches and gaining altitude of about 6000’ in the process, the car never missed a beat. It still pulls really well at higher speeds and it was fun getting into the overtaking lane up hill and passing Billy Bob in his very smoky F250 at 100mph and still accelerating hard. I’m a fan of BMW straight 6 engines and the addition of the twin turbos adds bags of torque which is always useful. The car averaged 22.4 mpg US on the trip, giving a range of 450-500 miles from the tank. Filling up in Oregon before coming in to California was also worth it- saving about 15% on prices for premium fuel. I also purchased an iPad there- no sales tax meant I could get one in Costco for $319.99 which is a steal and a good 25-30% cheaper than I’d pay in Ireland. Anyway, few pictures below. I fancied an X5 years ago but couldn’t get over the drug dealer image they have, but they don’t have that image here. Still very happy with it and will definitely consider one when I move in a few weeks.

By the way the guy in the photo is a friend of mine, not me!

Sounds like a good send-off trip for the car. I am sure you'll adjust, but won't Ireland seem awfully small after the US? 500 miles in Ireland and you'd be well into the Atlantic, or France
