I officially handed in my notice today at work and 15 minutes later was contemplating going to the doctors as I’d managed to hit my head on a metal bar, right near the crown and while it hurt initially, I thought it was ok.
Then about 15 seconds later I checked it and it was bleeding.
It kept bleeding even with pressure on it and stopped after about 15 minutes although my head was (literally) splitting.
So I decided to go to the doctor. My doctors is about 2 miles from my job so that’s a no brainer.
But this is America, and in America, we love healthcare and red tape.
I had to go to our hr place, get a form, fill it out give it back to them and they gave me another form to take with me to the doctors.
I then went to the doctors who gave me a wad of paper to fill out. This took about 45 minutes, all the while my head is throbbing and did I mention due to covid protocols, there weren’t enough chairs so I had to fill it out while standing?
I then got called to fill in more paperwork for a mandatory drug test. Apparently these are required if you’ve been in a workplace accident.
Eventually I got seen and when they realised it was a head injury that was bleeding, they insisted I go to the ER as there could be a brain bleed.
When I explained that I really didn’t want that (or the paperwork associated with it), they called in a Doctor who inspected the gash in my head and said the nature of it meant I’m probably ok but should go home and rest.
So because of bureaucracy, it was about 90 minutes before I saw any medical professional, only for them to confirm that I had cut my head, it didn’t need stitches as it had sealed up, it was quite painful and I’m ok to go home.
Why can’t they have a form for minor injuries that you can sign to say “I hit my head, it’s really sore, I won’t sue you, I need a doc to check it out.”
It would be far more efficient.
I passed the drugs test too. Got every one of them right first time.
