How old are you? Insurance is likely to be a consideration depending on age
Whereabouts in London? Inside any of the chargeable zones or likely to need to go into them?
What sort of size car?
Your name suggests some potential mechanical knowledge. Will you be doing your own maintenance?

Something small and nippy is probably the obvious route. If you can't go very fast then you want something that's fun at slower speeds. Your price range gets you quite easily into a less than 10yr old Panda/C1/Fiesta/i10 etc. At that price don't worry about mileage, just focus on condition.
The wife has always liked her Panda but its engine bay is so small it's an utter bugger to work on! Even a basic oil change is a pain in the arse. If you want to do a bit of home spannering but also would like to continue having some skin on your knuckles then this is something worth factoring in to your choice.

I'm 40 years old I live in Zone 6 I don't go into zone 1 if I do it via public transport
I love to fix things so ideally I will do the maintenance myself as I love to fix things

Hi. Welcome onboard.
The Fiesta is a good call. Good to drive, but still reasonably well mannered on the motorway for that occasional trip. Parts are relatively cheap and plentiful.

Aygo or Fiesta. Probably the Fiesta if you plan on doing some long trips as the Aygo is very buzzy at motorway speeds and the seats are very flat.
